I think they will. Microsoft will no-doubt do it as a purchase option/add-on.
Sony will try to do it differently than the others, as they did with Sixaxis.

Will Nintendo be on the cutting edge with HD quality visuals and audio with a more fine-tuned motion sensoring Wiimote?

No. Nintendo doesn't focus on graphics. Nintendo focuses on children, and nostalgia for 90's kids.

Will "casual" games take a more prominent role in each companies lineups?

That won't change at all. I think there will be a steady stream of sit-down games such as Final Fantasy, Mario, MGS, etc - but there will also be games like Smash Bros, Mario Kart, Rock Band, Guitar Hero etc.

How will Wii 2 be received? If it's not too much more than an improved Wii then how will that sell since the normal Wii buyer doesn't seem to be aware of things like Blu-Ray, 1080p, 5.1 Surround Sound, etc.? What will motivate the current Wii owners to upgrade to the next big thing instead of just keeping their Wii and continuing to play Wii Sports or whatever else?
|
"Wii2" will be recieved much as the Wii was. The Wii is no more than a GC with a little graphics boost and a motion censor - and the leap from Wii to the next, won't be any different. The graphics on the next Nintendo system will be near-par with the current gen PS3 or 360.

And console-wise, do you see anyone dropping out of gaming? Anyone coming into gaming? Anyone returning to gaming *winks at Sega*?
|
Nobody will drop out. Systems may merge. I can see Microsoft merging with Nintendo, system wise. I can see Sega sprogging off a new system. But people say that every gen. And Dreamcast has left a bad taste in their mouth for years, despite being surprisingly revolutionary though nobody recognizes that.

Basically, what the hell will we be doing come time for the next batch of gaming consoles?

I believe we'll be talking about it for years, and making assumptions which aren't correct in any aspect at all. We are consumers. We're never right. Video game companies don't give consumers what they want right off the bat. They give consumers what they think they want - and then listen to the backlash 4 months down the road.
I do however think console gaming will be in direct competition with computer gaming next gen. The PS3 is somewhat proof of that now. For a console, they do a computer really well. I would much rather surf the web on my 48'' LCD, than I would on my 20'' LCD screen.
So I guess there will be a period where there is a large gray area of whether or not some systems are systems, or whether they are a new type of personal computer - and if so, what makes a computer any different from that system in question.
