Default The PS3 controller

So I got to play a PS3 last week at my friend's house and my response is quite positive.

I must say, I am quite fond of the controller. I'm glad they didn't go with the boomerang design. It is essentially the same controller except without the rumble pack and it has that red light doo-dad in the center. The lack of rumble pack makes the controller incredibly light which is a nice feeling.

I also had fun with the Six axis function while playing the Moto Storm demo. It takes a bit of getting used to but it's a lot of fun. Although sneezing did cause me to accidently run my truck off a cliff.

The back triggers (L2, R2) have been nicely retooled and are comfortable to push and make for easy pressure variance in games where pressure sensitivity makes a difference. My only gripe though is if you set the controller down, the back triggers will push in. This wouldn't be a problem except for some reason in Resistance: Fall of Man, pushing the back trigger skips cut scenes. We had to reload to watch scenes a couple of times.

Also, the fact that they're rechargable is always nice.

So yeah, general impression of the PS3 controller is that they are pretty solid. Comfortable, functional, and all that jazz.

My girlfriend was looking at the PS3 and the PS2 demos at Wal*Mart and was confused since the controllers were so similar.

I figure it works, though...

I have only held the controller once at a GameStop kiosk. Don't know why, but I've never been fond of the general design of the original/dual shock/sixaxis controller. I can't quite pinpoint the reason either. Even after having a PSone and PS2 for a couple months while my friend was out of the country, I still did not warm up to it.

As for the triggers depressing when the controller is set down, I would think that Sony would've done something about that. I'm totally just guessing, but couldn't that wear them out if they stay in that depressed state for an extended period of time? Probably not, but you never know?
