Nintendo shrugged off the similarities, with a spokesperson saying "imitation is the sincerest form of flattery".

Haha, there was no way Sony could pass that new controller feature under the radar without being called out.

Spank'd!

With what Sony did, I wonder if Nintendo will go back to its "uber-secret mode wait until the last minute to unveil the 'secret'" again

Wouldn't it be funny if Nintendo suddenly said "hahah, that was our fake secret controller, that idea was destined for failure" and then they go back to copying the dual shock controller.

I wonder if Sony would follow Nintendo?

Most likely. If anything what Sony have done with their controller shows that they are concerned with Nintendo being in this generation gaming and they will try anything to stop them....this is where they may lose out. They shoulda stuck with the original banana controller.

now just to clear this up a bit for me.... PS3's controller is just a tilt sensor, not a actual pointing device like nintendos right? i keep thinking that its just a tilt sensor, but everyone blowing up over copying makes me unsure...

Ok, I new these parallels would be made, but they are absolutely ridiculous. A motion sensor in a standard controller does not copy the Wii remote, not by a ****ing long shot. It doesn't even copy Nintendo in any facet, because motion sensors have been around for years, and really I can't understand why Microsoft didn't use a similar design with their controller (they probably will now).

Look guys, the Wii remote provides fully 3D control. It is something way beyond a motion sensor. The PS3 and Wii experiences are still going to be incredibly different.
