Default Achaea - Dreams of Divine Lands

Has anyone here ever played this game?

It's a text based MUD (Multi User Dungeon). What this basically means is that it's a game like Dungeons and Dragons, except you can't see the other players. Everything is done through text commands, and there are no graphics.

When you enter a new room or area, the entire thing is explained to you in written descriptions.

Think MMORPG that plays like an interactive book.

I'm just not getting into this game because of my girlfriend, and it's incredibly addictive. If you're a person who likes books and video games, I think you might like to try it.

My name on there is Deschain, so look me up if you decide to play. I'm a male Atavian Runewarden.

I have never played one, but I would imagine it'd be pretty simple... unless you don't know how to read.

MUD's, or Multi-User Dungeons, have been around a LONG time. They are part of the building blocks of RPG gaming that we know and love today. I'll Give you an example: Say you logged into a game...

Quote:
The sound of birds chirping outside the window wake you from your sleep. Yawning, you look around to see that you are not in your bed, but are lying in a pile of straw in a small cottage. There is one door, a chair, and a tabel with an un-opened letter on it.

What would you like to do?
Type: Open Door

Quote:
The Door is locked.

What would you like to do?
Type: Open Letter

Quote:
You open the letter to reveal a small parchment reading: You most likely have a lot of questions right now. There is a Key to the Door in the Straw Pile, make sure you check it. Once you leave, head north until you come upon a tree with a knot hole. Thats all I can say for now. You enter the Letter into your Inventory.

What would you like to do?
Type: Check Straw

Quote:
After searching through the straw, you come upon the Key that the Letter told you about. It is plain looking and rusted. You enter the Key into your Inventory.

What would you like to do?
Type: Open Door

Quote:
The Door is locked.

What would you like to do?
Type: Use Key

Quote:
You slide the Key into the Door and turn it. You hear the pins click over and the Door unlocks.

What would you like the do?
Type: Open Door

Quote:
The door opens to reveal a pastural setting of long grasses and wild flowers. The sun is bright and sky is clear. There is a rotten water barrel to your right and a path leading North.

what would you liek to do?

You guys get the idea...

Yeah, that's pretty much how it goes.

I love it. It feels just like an interactive book that you are reading with hundreds of other people.

Also, the cool things about Iron Realms (the developers) MUDs is that everything is player driven. Players can rise up to politican and economic power in the games, and actually control the flow of the story.

I stopped playing Achaea, though, and switched to Lusternia, another Iron Realms MUD. They are really similar, but Lusternia is newer so it's going to be easier to learn the background history. And the continent is smaller, so it's harder to get lost.

My name is Deschain on that as well, though.
