Yeah, that's pretty much how it goes.
I love it. It feels just like an interactive book that you are reading with hundreds of other people.
Also, the cool things about Iron Realms (the developers) MUDs is that everything is player driven. Players can rise up to politican and economic power in the games, and actually control the flow of the story.
I stopped playing Achaea, though, and switched to Lusternia, another Iron Realms MUD. They are really similar, but Lusternia is newer so it's going to be easier to learn the background history. And the continent is smaller, so it's harder to get lost.
