Images from France
Thought everyone might be interested in seeing some pictures from my travels in France. Most of them are from the Loire valley. I'm in one, it is my favorite picture of myself. Taken on top of Mont St. Michel.
The last one is the car that awaited me when I returned.
Enjoy!

It's another night in hell, Another child won't live to tell
Can you imagine what it's like to starve to death
And as we sit free and well, Another soldier has to yell
Tell my wife and children I love them in his last breath
C'mon now amen, amen, amen

Why are you confused? What about it makes you think it wouldn't be a french beach?

Just to clarify, there is no need to get too jealous. The Mustang was just a rental. The other car in the picture is her permanent car.

It looks as if you've had an incredible journey. I'm glad you're back. Thanks for sharing those wonderful pictures of your travels with us. Was the Ford Mustang luxiorious and impressive? You sound rested and relaxed.

Thanks a lot. I was planning on letting everyone know eventually. If we still had the rep system, I would definately give that post a minus rep.
The mustang was a blast to drive. Definately one to consider when I make a purchase. Although, I have discovered that I don't really fit well in it. (I am a little too small for that car) I used cruise control for the first time. It is a good thing it had it, otherwise, I probably would have been going WAY TOO fast.
I have been doing my share of relaxing. It is good to be back. I would like to get back to my place in Kirksville though.
I haven't played many video games at all this summer. Either too busy or just haven't gotten the cube unpacked. There are a lot of excuses I could give you but none of them are very good.

have you ever noticed that what you just said is often the best excuse of all?
seriously, though...I find it interesting that when someone doesnt get around to doing something, they more often than not dont have any particular reason for it. happens to me all the time...

Re: Images from France
JS, could tell us whether your extensive knowledge of the French language gave you any edge over the typical American tourist. Did you still find yourself at loss when in coversation with the native residents? What advantages and disadvantages did you encounter in your journey?

I would say that I was definately more advantaged than a typical tourist would be. I was able to converse with people in the cafes, get directions, and tell guys that I was not interested.
A couple of stories:
As part of one of our classes we had to go out and talk to local citizens and ask them questions. A few of the people I talked to told me that I spoke French very well and when they found out I was from America, they complimented me on my accent. That was a great confidence boost.
I had a hard time talking to my teacher sometimes. She kind of intimidated me. I made many grammar mistakes that I shouldn't have made around her.
I found out that I can not talk about complicated computer stuff in French. I made a movie for my conversation class and the cds got messed up. I had no idea how to explain it all to Julie, my monitor. So, I ended up telling her in English. She understood some of it...
There was this guy at my favorite sandwich place. He spoke English. So, often times I would go in there and I would speak to him in French. But then he would speak to me in English. It was fun and interesting.
I also discovered that I can converse more easily in French after I have had a bit to drink. 6 drinks to be exact, I was speaking more in French than in English to my friends who spoke english.
The most interesting part was meal times. Because we sat at big dining tables, you often end up sitting next to people you don't normally converse with. The people who were there from other countries didn't speak english, naturally. So our common language was French. But then, one of my friends did not know very much French so she always spoke English unless she absolutely had to use French. So I found myself bouncing back and forth between the two languages. I spent a lot of time translating between my friend and someone who didn't speak english.
