Err.. Forums misconfigured?
I was just browsing this topic:
http://www.gametavern.net/forums/showthread.php?t=120
Only to realize that Fez's comment was censored, while all of the quotes of his comment were not. Do we have swear censorship off now? Or is it just misconfigured so the original word is carried over into a quote but not a standard post?
[Edit]Ah, so we've quickly shifted the source of the problem. That topic must have been posted at a time when we didn't have the censorer on. But the real problem lies in why the hell the topic is at the top and why it thinks Shadow Link posted in the topic today...[/Edit]

The last post to that thread was done in 2002... yet it remains at the top of the messageboard? Even newer messages come after it...

Re: Err.. Forums misconfigured?
I never really understood censoring like that. I mean it's better than just "f*ck off" but everyone still knows what you've said. The intended connotation remains the same. And don't get me started on bleeping tv shows where you still see the lips move and hear either the beginning or end of the word.
Quote:
Word History: The obscenity **** is a very old word and has been considered shocking from the first, though it is seen in print much more often now than in the past. Its first known occurrence, in code because of its unacceptability, is in a poem composed in a mixture of Latin and English sometime before 1500. The poem, which satirizes the Carmelite friars of Cambridge, England, takes its title, “Flen flyys,” from the first words of its opening line, “Flen, flyys, and freris,” that is, “fleas, flies, and friars.” The line that contains **** reads “Non sunt in coeli, quia gxddbov xxkxzt pg ifmk.” The Latin words “Non sunt in coeli, quia,” mean “they [the friars] are not in heaven, since.” The code “gxddbov xxkxzt pg ifmk” is easily broken by simply substituting the preceding letter in the alphabet, keeping in mind differences in the alphabet and in spelling between then and now: i was then used for both i and j; v was used for both u and v; and vv was used for w. This yields “fvccant [a fake Latin form] vvivys of heli.” The whole thus reads in translation: “They are not in heaven because they **** wives of Ely [a town near Cambridge].”

Re: Err.. Forums misconfigured?
If someone votes in a poll, the forum takes it as a new post and thus bumps it to the top.

As you can see though, nobody can vote in the poll. The thread is closed...
Unless.... It was recently closed to solve that very problem?
[Edit]Looking in this topic:
http://www.gametavern.net/forums/sho...hp?t=62&page=1
Specifically these two posts:
http://www.gametavern.net/forums/sho...66&postcount=7
http://www.gametavern.net/forums/sho...03&postcount=8
I've come to the conclusion that certain formatting in older posts is no longer maintained, save for in quotes. Bizzare...[/Edit]
