Michael Jackson Due in Court Today as Frenzy Grows

Michael Jackson was due in a California courtroom Monday -- his freedom, career and reputation on the line -- as jury selection begins in the pop star's child molestation trial.

Jackson, who said Sunday that he would be "acquitted and vindicated" at trial, was expected to sit with his lawyers at the defense table as the first of some 750 prospective jurors are summoned to the courtroom of Santa Barbara Superior Court Judge Rodney Melville.

The would-be jurors will report to Melville's courtroom, in the central California city of Santa Maria, in groups of 150 to determine if they can serve on a trial that could last six months. The judge will try to assemble a pool of possible jurors who will be given seven-page questionnaires about the case and told to return on Feb. 7.

The trial of Jackson, one of the world's best-known entertainers, on charges of molesting a young boy has drawn worldwide media attention. The start of jury selection was expected to create a huge frenzy outside the courthouse.

Police braced for the arrival of hundreds or even thousands of Jackson's fans, some of whom camped out overnight at the courthouse despite chilly weather and fences designed to keep them well away from the 46-year-old performer.

More than 1,000 journalists from Australia, Britain, France, Germany, Japan, Mexico and the United States have registered to cover the trial. Sunday reporters waited in line for five hours to pick up credentials needed to get through tight security surrounding the courthouse property.

I can't stand Michael Jackson now and I like to make fun of him, but I surely can't make fun of him when I listen to Thriller. It's a classic and there is no denying that...

If he did what is alleged, then that's terrible, but he still made some good music.

Michael Jackson is great and has good intentions. Unfortunatley, his father was crazy and mean and caused him emotional trauma through his abuse and forcing him to live as a performer 24/7. He's just trying to live the life that he missed his whole entire youth.

I'm all for putting him behind bars. That guy is messed up and I seriously think he did it. His star status might save him like it did OJ.

Indeed he did. And I'm of the same philosophy as you. I definitely hope that he's found guilty if he did what he's been accused of. But if not, he's just a Willy Wonka in my book.

He's already stated that he's gotten two nose jobs (which, granted is a lie, he has to have gotten at least four for the amount of tissue degredation he shows supposedly). As for the fact that he bleached his skin, he doesn't deny it at all. He has a skin condition called vitiligo which, on anybody (but a black person and a celebrity to boot in particular) can be really aweful looking. It was a radical proceedure but he undoubtably looks better white than he would have black with vitiligo.

Now with the whole, "he looks like a woman" thing... He looks like a woman because he styled his plastic surgery after Diana Ross. Yes, he is a messed up man. But I don't necessarily think that means he molests children.

Well, without his attempts to look like a white female, they'd of never got the idea for that horrible white chicks movie.

he wasnt a celebrity, the case itself is what made him 'famous' totally different when the person is an actual celebrity before the case.
