Well that sounds like a self-fulfilling prophecy to me. If there isn't an attack because we are over there, it can never be proved thats the reason so then there is no reason to have troops there. Its cyclical logic. Also, we were convinced that there would ever be an attack on US soil before 9/11. See what assuming gets you?

Me? I feel safer taking the fight to them than just continuing to be a punching bg as the West has been for the past 30 years prior to 9/11.

Ace, good luck and keep safe. Also know that you are doing good in this world while being over there, unlike what some would rather have you believe.

Good movie, happened to see it yesterday. But it made me pity/dislike the army even more.

Uh, yeah there is. There was an article written not long ago in a reputable London paper (forget which one) that proved the link between the attack on 9/11 and Saddam Hussein. Turns out one of those who planned the attack was trained by Hussein's regime.

I forget which article that is, but I'll try and find it.

Surprised this news never made it big in the US media? I'm not.

But once again, this is about Ace, not Al Queida. Good luck my man.

I don't actually trust the media anymore. Everything gets censored. They only show the good things that the american soldiers have done in Iraq (or the things that make them look good) but never any of the bad things they do. I saw an Al Jazeera news cast where an entire family was killed because they "weren't cooperating" with the troops. One of the soldiers was hurting the man's son and the man got mad and pushed the soldier away from his son and the whole family was shot.

Censorship is wrong when the truth is what's being censored.

Your a moron if you think that would be censored.. If you think the american goverment is just over there to kill innocent people come to Iowa preferrably around where I live and walk into a dark alley .. If someone got shot they threatened the life of a us troop.. Again I say if someone were to threaten my life better ME then them : )

I do appreciate it. I'm starting to not worry about going over there nearly as much even though I have a couple months' left to pack and plan. I'm looking into micro satellite modems .. Not tiny but I mean small

If you are seriously trusting Al Jazeera for you balanced news source, then you're just looking for problems. I'm not saying that its all been a wonderful white knight experience from the US troops, but Al Jazeera would have you believe that Iraq was better off with Saddam, which is just stupid and without merit.

Bad things happen in war, but we have to look at the big picture here, and not just isolated incidences and start screaming "SEE?? SEE?? I TOLD YOU SO!!!"

Q: Are the Iraqi people better off without Saddam murdering them on a whim?

Yes. Duh.

Q: Is Iraq better off being a democracy?

Thats yet to be seen, but one would assume so as Dictatorships genarally create more horror than democracies by far.

Q: Is the world better off once a strong Arab nation is made democratic for the first time in history?

Once again yet to be seen, but I believe as many others do that it may be one of the most important happenings in world history. It could literally CHANGE THE WORLD... and for the better.

BTW, the article I quoted was from the Telegraph, but when I tried and bring it up it was too old and had been archived (it was published in early winter I think).

Buh. I'm not in support of Al Jazeera. I'm just not in support of censorship. I wish you'd just keep your mouth shut from time to time strangler. We've all heard your opinion on the war a thousand freaking times. I don't give a good god damn.

I watched a thing on CTV (a canadian channel) where they interviewed a lot of american reporters that went into Iraq. They showed a lot of footage that the government wouldn't allow them to air on CNN. Most of the incidents involving civilian killing i saw ddin't involve the civilians threatening the life of the U.S. troops in any way.

I'm not in support of Sadam or anything and I am in favor of democracy. So don't use those arguments against me to beat me in an argument. I just think that when you kill civilians your cause loses a good deal of credibility.

What I'm really worried about right now is all the middle easterners that the american government locked up in a camp in Guantonomo Bay. I'm sure most of them didn't do anything. They haven't been let go and it's been months. No fair trials or anything. This goes against the whole Geneva convention thing. And it's a lot like when Americans locked up the Japanese in cmaps during World War 2.

Personally i think the Patriot Act is a bunch of bull****. It's really just a step towards the whole Big Brother thing. Privacy is a right, not a privelage.

But anyhow, do i believe Saddam was a good person? No.
Do I trust Al Jazeera for a proper telling of the events surrounding "The War on Terrorism"? No.
Do I think democracy is a good thing? Yes.

I can't stand republicans like you, Strangler. You're a bunch of loud mouth bullies that insult what everyone else believes and blurt out whatever crap those retards in office tell you. If you think republicans should run the country, you are sadly mistaken. During Dubbya's time in office, lots of people have lost their jobs. Most since the great depression in fact.

I'm sick of hearing you're redundant side of the argument. It's all i hear whenever i say anything about the middle east. I'm not misinformed, you're just an idiot.

Besides, I think the fact that you're a fan of pro wrestling should render your opinions invalid.

And what would you know of republicans running the office because I mean look at it this way he got a ****ed up situation to begin with and he's made it better then what he started with..

If you look at the job standpoint THE MARKET CRASHED BECAUSE OF TERROISM and is coming back up because of the war.. He's made multiple jobs in the war time.. And the economy's turned around because of DUBYA so SHUT IT..

Whee. And that's arguing with republicans.

I'm sorry you hate me Ace but regardless of your POV on the whole situation, i don't hate you.

*Nothing against you personally* But arguing with a republican is next to impossible. I look at what you say and what other people who see things differently from me, consider them, and then re-evaluate what I believe.

What I think we need is a little role reversal. A military force (Group X we shall call them.) invades you because they think George W. Bush is a tyrant and he's evil and your country's way of running a country is wrong. Now, their military force is much more powerful than yours. (We'll reverse funds here. Instead of America haveing billions in their military, Group X has billions of dollars invested in your military and America has only $250,000 in their military which is the estimated amount that the terrorist factions in Iraq have.)
Now, your country is being invaded. And your hypothetical son or dad or wife or brother or what have you has to pull something out of his jacket so he/she can lie on his stomach to comply with Group X's soldiers. He/she is shot on sight. Exactly how would that make you feel? Another country invades you, your neighbours are suffering and some of them are being killed. What would you want to do? What could you do? Would you fight them at the risk of being called a terrorist and then being shot? How could you handle being someone from a country that is getting invaded?

The problem with "suspected terrorists" being locked up is the fact that they didn't have any proof worthy of locking some of them up. That's why the U.N. is getting really pissed off about it.

What I don't get is how me believeing privacy is a right makes me an unpatriotic hippy. Would you like cameras in your house or some crap like that?
And I'm sorry people you know died fighting for their country. I don't disrespect them or anything. But it always turns out that these wars didn't need to be fought. WWII was the only major war that I think was worth going to.

Oh...and a lot of jobs have been lost while the war has been taking place.

I respect what you have to say but please consider what I have to say before you yell at me again.

It's a damn shame that you have to go to war. I feel for you. None of the soldiers should still be there. And I certainly don't think this war was worth the lives it cost on both sides. But that's just my opinion.

Dylflon I think your views would change if you had to go over there and constantly worrie about someone trying to kill you. I mean you tell me you have seen video of
Americans killing civillians, well how do you know they were civillians? You dont know why the Americans killed them you dont know if they were civillians all you saw was some video of American troops killing some people who were dressed like civillians. The point is you know nothing so shut the hell up.

And it will start yet again.. unless bond closes this thread which I hope he doesn't because what is the point of a forum if the threads are closed due to arguments ?

No disclaimer this time thus no cussing

ok here goes.. dyflon in 1990 or 1991 we had the GULF WAR why you may ask ?

Because that person that your defending Ie. Sadam Hussain decided to take over Kuwait and steal their entire gold fortune .. ect.. Because they were close to him. They had scuds and chemical weapons of all sorts. So it's not people thinking he was a tyrant it's knowing he is a tyrant.

And killing 400 thousand of his own people you don't think thats wrong. What were you a hitler youth or something want to send people to be executed in gas chambers little hitler ?

Ok next topic the killing of civilians, dyflon if you so much as watch the news you would notice that people that live in iraq get along with us soldiers fine they have even had an economy boost from the soldiers buying trinkets to send home. The people that get shot more then likely deserve it..

On your next subject of Proof.. You say that the un is getting angry with the us ? You must watch the taliban news network to get your news don't you YOU WATCH TNN ( Ha I made a funny )... Because they have found chemical weapons. But the way they find them determines weither they are that of mass destruction. Like if you find one then another 100 yards from it they aren't weapons of mass destruction just weapons.. PAY ATTENTION..

And how did we get on the subject of privacy anyways I mean do you have a camera in your home ? Is there someone watching you 24/7 is there a microchip implanted in your hand to monitor your movements ? NO ? hrm.. well then how do you figure your being monitored and where did you get the idea for bigbrother anyways.. You need to stop reading scifi and read the news paper..
