Default PSP: Official launch date, price (Japan)

December 12

PSP: 19800 Yen (roughly $190 US)
http://<br /> http://www.scei.co.jp...df/041027a.pdf

PSP + MS Duo + remote headphone = 24800 yen (roughly $235 US)

They HAVE to be taking a beating launching at this, well, generous price (for consumers ).

And it begins...

sony loses a billion dollars per PSP holy crap

this is why competition is good.... keep the prices down and the tech up... yep, i'll get both now!!!

Wow, thats very cheap for something like that. But I'm glad its cheaper so people can't complain so much. I'm gonna guess the US price to be $199. But maybe down the road I will pick one up. Seeing it say PSP-1000 reminds me of the original PS2's and how they had their fair share of problems sometimes so I'm gonna hold out for other model revisions, etc...

For someone who hasn't followed sony news in several years, what are the rumors/speculation as to a US release date?

My GUESS would be March 05, but they havent set anything in stone, other than the fact that it was delayed a long time ago from Dec 04 to early-mid 05.

Bloomberg Japan quotes high-ranking company officials, industry analysts on the handheld wars.

The ink's not yet dry on the PSP price tags, but the fallout from yesterday's surprising announcements has already begun. Bloomberg Japan reported today on Nintendo's reaction to Sony's price point for the PSP, which was far lower than any analyst or industry insider prediction.

"That's not a game machine," said Yasuhiro Minagawa, head of PR for Nintendo Co., Ltd. "They showed it at the [Tokyo] Game Show without any fundamental game software, and you can tell that it's not yet complete."

For a reaction to the reaction, Bloomberg went to SCE's Ken Kutaragi. "People who want to play with Pikachu will need Nintendo's new-style DS machine," he said, "but those who want to play our racing game Gran Turismo 4 will need a PSP, right?"

Bloomberg also quoted JP Morgan Securities analyst Masaru Onishi, who told the news service, "By announcing an unexpectedly low price for the PSP, Sony has raised the chances that it will fully expand into the market. Many game publishers are now saying, 'At that price, we'd seriously like to make games for the PSP.'"
And an interesting war it shall be.

gotta love the nature of competition. Kuturagi is an admirable person...he sticks to his guns, and lets the market play out, which is usually in his favour and how he expects it to.

If it's one thing Sony does best, it's marketing. I love the look of the PSP box (and the PSP)

I agree with you 101%. So good that they're one of the reasons I'm in marketing administration (college).
