Working at ISP?
I thought I remember one of you guys saying that you worked at an ISP, if not then oh well, disregard this post.
Otherwise, how is it there? What do you actually do? Answer phones all day? Do you get to go in data center and reset servers, login into servers and all that stuff?
I just got a job working for an ISP and it sucks. Some people are so stooopid. Click here,...click here,...click next,...open internet explorer,.."Customer: Where, what did you say?" I said click the big blue E. "Oh, wheres that?"
I don't know how long I can stand this job.

Re: Working at ISP?
I really don't know. I just can't picture myself working for the rest of my life. That sucks. Theres nothing to look forward to everyday but work, work, work. Ahhhhhh!!!
I need to win the powerball, then I wouldn't have to work anymore.
I just need to find a way to come up big.

Re: Working at ISP?
I used to work at an ISP.
When I worked there, it was pretty good. Little cubicles for each phone and no one had a set cubicle thing. Just sit wherever you want kind of.
I just answered calls related to dial-up issues/email/software issues (dial up only). And yes, I just had a headset on answering calls.
I didn't do any server resetting. I could login into a central server area but I couldn't do any damage (not enough priveleges). I could reset passwords, check passwords, etc...But thats about it for resetting as a dialup tech. Any other issues with accounts went to Customer Service.
And don't worry. Get used to the idiots. Just walk them through slowly. Sometimes I had to. Other times I got people who weren't computer illiterate but when I took th em outside the realm of either our software/browser/email program, sometimes it took them a minute to figure it out.

Re: Working at ISP?
I was a senior technican at earthlink for a while it's not a bad job, If jonbo or someone couldn't fix a problem they would escalate and I would do the callback until I got the problem fixed.

Re: Working at ISP?
Thats cool, we manage a lot of other peoples servers as well, and damn, theres a **** load to learn. Its pretty cool where I work. I actually have admin priveledges for a lot of things. I could basically go into web servers and **** something up if I didn't know what I was doing. I get access to data center, racks, and all that. I was surprised they let me do all those considering I just started there.

Dude! Stupid people are the best part of working in tech support; if it weren't for them then what kinds of fun stuff would there be to talk about? None! It's all about the 'tards
DISCLAIMER: I may or may not work for an ISP. Mentioning that I work for an ISP may potentioally get me fired from said hypothetical working position. You have been warned.
