Default I was thinking (Sony and the PSP)

That PS2's autumn line-up will HAVE TONS of massive selling games.

This is just a few months before the PSP launches... so could they possibly soften the hit of the PSP hardware lose through third party royality fees, and sales of first party games.

FIRST PARTY:

1. Gran Turismo (GT3 did 9 million units worldwide)

2. Killzone (First party game that will easily manage to break 3 million units)

3. Ratchet & Clank (Previous games did over 2 million each)

4. Jak 3 (Over 3 million worldwide)

5. WRC 4 (The previous games all went platimium and went over a million units sold)

THIRD PARTY:

1. GTA: San Andreas (Vice City sold 14 Million... Sony could make some money here)

2. Metal Gear Solid (Previous MGS did around 5 million units, so this should be no different)

3. Final Fantasy (5-6 million units)

4. Kingdom Hearts (KH1 sold 5 million)

5. Xenosaga 2 (First one did over a million)

6. Splinter Cell: Pandorra Tomorrow (previous PS2 version sold over 2 million, and this is a quality port with added gameplay features... so it should do equally as well in sales)

7. Devil May Cry 3 (should average over 2 million easily)

8. Tekken 5 (1+ million units sold)

Out of those Ratchet & Clank : Up Your Arsenal, Killzone, Gran Turismo 4, WRC are first party.

Together (going by sales of previous games)the sales of First Party games will amount to around 16+ million games sold. (Killzone is bound to sell)

Then we have third party games which should do over 30+ million units.

Sony is also making profit on hardware (Eye-Toy with it's 2.7 million units in Europe)... Great sales of First Party and Third Party games...

So what I want to bring to... IS THE PRICE OF THE PSP.

I believe that they are in a position to take a HUGE hit on hardware (Giving the PSP a LOWER PRICE POINT THAN EXPECTED) in the begining till they establish a userbase and games start to sell.

It is a possibility. I for one am anticipating several of the games on the list you presented. Autumn is going to be a sweet time to be an owner of a PS2. Perhaps sony will decide to lower the PSP's price. However, it will have to be pretty low to entice me to get one. I saw one on a TV show the other day...that thing was like...HUGE! I want my handhelds to fit into my pocket at least.

I hope that the next game boy isnt some remade laptop with the screen in the middle of the "keyboard"

the PSP will be priced competitively...Sony knows what they're doing. Get the systems off the shelves, start selling millions of units of software, and gradually lower production costs.

I think the PSP seems more likely to be a remade laptop since Sony is trying to make it the all in one thing...all a DS does is play games (software developers can make whatever they want for it but the main core is games).

You ever hear of oversaturation?

Too much of a good thing is bad for you, and all that other rubbish.

I think that will play a large part into this whole Sony lineup (as well as Nintendo's and MicroSoft's)

First and foremost, I don't see where you get the Killzone numbers from, or how you predicted it, but eh.

Second, because there are so many potential "great" selling games, some games will quite frankly get lost in the shuffle, or they will all do well, but cut sales down across the board.

Then you take into consideration that both the GameCube and Xbox are looking at key title releases this year, and you start to see that it's hard to predict anything.

A better question though, is Sony willing to wait that late (this would probably be after the DS launches and what have you) to announce an official price for the PSP?

I mean I don't imagine they are thinking like you are thinking, maybe they are you never know, but eh.

And what happens if they do go through with this, and the price doesn't really help em? As far as I can remember, no console has ever gone UP in price.
