German Company Develops Anti-Anti Popup Blocker

No, the subject title wasnt a typo.

ONLINE MARKETERS will be able to disable software that blocks pop-up advertisements thanks to the researches of a German company.

Falk eSolutions, which makes online ad delivery systems, plans to flog its software to its mates in the business and allow them to fill PC screens with advertisements again.

The software, which bypasses software blocks pop-ups by converting them into other forms of online ads, will be part of Falk's AdSolution FX rich-media ad management tool.

Companies that buy the package can replace a pop-up with a "floating" ad, or ads that appear as transparent images over Web-site content.

Marketers will also be able to create and select their own types of replacement ads. A Falk spokesman said that pop-up blocking software has made it harder for Web publishers and marketers to do business and "monetise the content that users desire" [what user wants pop-ups? Ed].

Even Microsoft has got in on the act. Its service pack three will include a pop-up blocker for Internet Explorer that is turned on by default.

However Falk's pop-up blocker detection will work with IE's upcoming blocker and thus rendering Vole's efforts useless.

Here is my thought on this, and believe me, I'm pissed off.

The company that made this has been added to the hitlist of online companies to hate. If this sh*t actually comes into effect and it becomes a problem again, I will be sending many emails every day to this company telling them they have ruined everything to do with the internet. I also really hope hackers shove and cram the german companies computers so full of spyware that you dont even have to click on anything to receive 50 different popups. I would gladly join in. I dont care about the law or anything, I just want this company to know how it feels to be able to not use the internet the way WE consumers want to. I can't express my anger at this. I hope this gets put all over the media so this german company gets thousands upon thousands of emails. While we're at it, lets spam them to hell and back.

sounds like its only going to be a big issue for thoes who are silly enough to actually use MS IE.

i think the folks at Opera and Mozilla will still work or just make a couple little tweaks so that it works fine again.

IE has the problem that they only seem to update thier IE every five years.

The problem here is that advertising companies still think that pop-ups work or they wouldn't be working so hard to get them on your computer. Obviously, someone out there is clicking on these things and ruining it for the rest of us.

Exactly. Believe it or not, but there are A LOT of online idiots and morons out there that when something comes up and says "you've won a prize" or "you've got 3 new messeges!", they actually believe it and click on the damn thing.

I saw my mom do that once and I was like "mom, you dont REALLY have messeges."

Yeah, this makes me very angry also, but like Canyarion said, in a matter of no time, they'll have triple anti software.

The ones that get more people are the ones that pop up and the X in the top right to close it. really isnt an X, its part of the picture of the ad.

so ppl click on the X and it takes em to the link. i always snicker when i see people do that.

Why not make pop-ups illegal? I view it as an invasion of privacy, its like having companys constantly knock at your door to buy their goods and services. Its SPAM but in a different form. I say we protest agains Germany...or at least the bastard who did this monstrocity...

Do you want your internet censored? because i dont. i'd rather just keep getting new programs to stop the stuff i dont want, because theres always going to be programs to do such. Small price to pay i'd say.

You start censoring some stuff. other stuff soon follows. and sadly thats already been started and still carrying on.

Then who are you going to get to police it and control these rules? and what contries will popups be illegal in? too many issues for something so small you can stop with a tiny program.

I'm with Canyarion and Vampyr on the stance that we'll just develop new blockers. And hopefully, general internet users will become more educated to the scams of the world wide web.

Spyware should be illegal because it IS invading privacy but congress is too lazy to get the bill made to make it illegal or something like that. (I've been hearing that they are consideringa bill similar to what I mentioned)

I don't normally use the adblock extension found at http://adblock.mozdev.org/ , mostly the userContent.css method.
