Default Analysts....they...know...sooo....much....

This was on cube-curope. I guess Juniper Research made comments on what will happen next gen.

Juniper Research are predicting that due to new features such as high-speed internet and connectivity the next generation of consoles from Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo will be the biggest selling yet.

Keri Allan, Games Specialist at Juniper Research found that "The next generation of machines will take a leap into the world of convergence and offer gamers a home media centre rather than just a gaming machine. Graphics and speed will evolve, but connectivity between devices will also come to the forefront. This functionality will help consoles to finally become a mainstream entertainment medium, and put the stereotypical image of the 'computer gaming geek' to rest."

The study also suggests that online gaming from consoles will reach 28m regular users by 2008. It also suggests that handheld sales will reach $25bn by 2008 due to competition from Sony, Gamepark and more.

"Price drops, bundling and add-ons will continue to be in favour, but savvy users will increasingly be holding-off making a purchase until the new hardware is ready in 2005," is also what was predicted about the current generation of consoles.

Ok, here I go. Basically stating that gaming will be completely mainstream next gen. makes me think if I should even buy anymore consoles because there will be soo many useless violence/sex games that 14 year olds will buy that the chance to buy good games without an M rating will not happen. I'm not a hater of GTA, I'm just saying that I see there being alot of games next gen. that basically are full of violence or too much "sex" and the gameplay is utterly horrible, but all these mainstream people will jump on it and buy it. I hope the computer gaming geek term stays around because damnit, I'm a geek (good enough, yes).

And also, they mention that competition from GamePark will help the handheld market. Who the hell is Gamepark?! As far as I know, I've never heard of it. Maybe I'm blind or something, but I havent seen the name before.

But just to say it now, if most of us are still here in a few years for next gen. and gaming looks to be getting waaay too mainstream, I'll just stop buying console games and go PC only since I'm not going to be able to understand the snotty assed idiotic teenagers who go "oh my god a boob...sooo cool"

*edit* and also, this guy is speaking like I was thinking also.

Secondly I kind of wish videogames went back to the geek days eliminating these punk assed teens who sit there shouting about how amazing it is that there PS2 can play DVD's or how cool the tits are in DOA.

just because gaming has gone mainstream doesn't mean the gameplay has gone down the crapper...you'll always have developers like Konami who always strive for perfection
