Gamecube games now being pirated?
As I was surfing the net, I came upon the website www.p!racy=b@d.org. They, on average seem to host a lot of... Shall we say, legally questionable software, music, etc. using the Bittorrent P2P network.
At first I just passed it off as a simple pirating operation, but then something caught my eye. Software titles from the Gamecube. Games like Super Monkey Ball 2, Starfox Adventures, and Luigi's Mansion are all downloadable from their website.
What confuses me, is this:what's the point. Is there a technique out there I haven't heard of that people are using to successfully burn GOD's? I mean, I know that the mini-DVD disks can be bought, but I thought there was an issue in the ripping process that made it difficult to get a valid disk image.
Anybody know something about this that I don't?

No, X-Box games are being pirated as well. You need a special DVD burner to burn X-Box games (or at least special software) because it burns from the outside of the disk to the inside (usually the opposite). And PS2 games... Well... Sony didn't do much to stop that.
GameMaster: They shouldn't. There isn't any GC emulator written yet (at least not a public one). I know there are some PS2 and X-Box ones in the beta stages (alpha for X-Box), but none for GC...
AGG! And now they added Wave Race: Blue Storm just in the last 5 minutes...

I don't know.. I wouldn't worry too much about it. I mean, piracy can only help the Gamecube. Hasn't really slowed GBA, PS2, or Xbox down.

Xbox and PS2 pritating is in full swing. Now, pirated disc, I doubt it. You can copy the disc but it will be a read error when you play it back. Emulator maybe. I heard there was a bug on PSO that somehow allowed emulated games through the comp, but your still paying for it technically. I think there is a GC emulator out there called Dolphin, but Ive never actually heard that its real.

It is a fact that homebrew software, and even games can be run via the PSO boot-sector glitch.
The only downside to this is, you must limit the homebrew to 900k (since that's the amount of data left in the RAM while the game is running), and somehow make your own core OS for the pirated discs to play on.
So yes, it's still technically impossible to directly play a GCN backup without seriously rerouting the entire setup to be a PC of sorts...but I guess studying the system's ISO's doesn't hurt.
Personally, I find it pretty much fruitless to emu or hack GCN games, especially with the prices so low nowadays (especially in comparision to the same Xbox and PS2 third party titles).

Found some more out over at ircspy.com.
"According to some threads over at Console Paradise, the GameCube has been cracked with the unofficial release of Animal Crossing Loader v1.1. This loader lets you stream GameCube ISOs from a PC to the game console using its BroadBand Adapter and the Phantasy Star Online exploit. There is no need for modchips or external hardware. Besides this news, we can also read that an emulator has presumably been released that, of course, lets you play GameCube games on your computer
Firstly congrats to Eurasia for some great work! It's nice of them to allow a few people to see their internal release.
Hopefully this will really open the Hombrew scene and show the real power of the GCN.
Okay so you're probably all wondering how this works with commercial titles?
The loader is only designed as a development tool to allow you to run larger images on the GCN. This could include emulators and mediaplayers.
While commercial game images will load, there are many that will not boot and most that do will be slow. Animal Crossing and Luigi's mansion are the only ones that work 100% at this stage.
Overall the tool worked great and has come along way in the few months it's been in development.
Remember though it isn't a official public release or designed for commercial games so don't complain if something doesn't boot.
I can't stress enough to people that this is NOT an official public release. I too thank Eurasia for an impressive show of talent. Cant wait to see some of the homebrew releases.
The threads where these topics are discussed can be found here (Animal Crossing Loader) and here (emulator). Please note that registration is required to view the threads and no, the loader and emulator are not available for download. You can only download an .avi movie which shows the emulated version of the Zelda game."

Where have you seen mini-dvd's that you can buy? I've only seen mini-cd's that hold a pale 200-300 Megs.
But on the subject of pirating. Oh well, the games that are working aren't much anyways. If you must play Luigi's Mansion desperately for some reason, then this might fit your fancy. Animal Crossing is a good game they chose to hack. I wonder how well the emulator emulates the games. I mean, I have yet to see a near perfect emulator for the '64 so I have to wonder what the graphical quality of the games are.

Jeff it is happening to the xbox. remember me asking if you wanted to have yor xbox modded and then showing you a website that allows you to do it and shows you how. (not saying that I do it) But there is so much modding going on with each console that every game can be stolen and downloaded.

You can get 8cm DVD's at nearly every online electronics store, and they are all over the place in Japan (where 8cm DVD's and CD's are the norm for Digital Camera and Digital Camcorder storage).
Of course, you should buy them in bulk, but the way the few hacks are working for GCN now, you won't even need them.
