Madden Defense

I've never really got into playing Madden, but this year I decided to go out and grab the 2004 copy. Everyone knows the game is real impressive and addicting, but I'm having trouble in understanding exactly how to play effective defense. I am getting destroyed by almost any team I play and foreget it when I go online. I feel like I'm pretty much clueless when it comes to selecting a defensive play. I don't really understand what each little diagram means. If someone with some experience in this game could give me a few pointers in the right direction, I might be able to win an f-ing game.

Hey thanx for replying, but i already read that thread. I was hoping to get some additional info on how to understand what the diagrams are actually depicting.
