Acclaim to Drop GameCube Support
Quote:
Acclaim's CEO Rod Cousens claims they are not generating enough money on the GameCube.
In a recent article on MVC , a German computer and video game web site, Acclaim has decided to drop their support for the Nintendo GameCube.
Acclaim's CEO, Rod Cousens, commented on Acclaims recent decision by stating, "Why are we to develop games for platforms that do not supply appropriate yields? We still support PS2 and Xbox, but Nintendo? No, not in the foreseeable future."
Acclaim's current games in development for the GameCube will continue as planned, however no further projects will be planned in the future.

And another one bites the dust...
I really don't think that Acclaim made that many outsanding games for the GameCube in anycase.

Re: Acclaim to Drop GameCube Support
I don't think Acclaim has made any outstanding games for any system. Most of their games are multiplatform, and complete crap. For some reason, I don't think Acclaim will be missed.

They might not be missed by educated gamers, but they are a massive developer that makes games that people do buy. We might not miss Acclaim, but I think Nintendo will.

Re: Acclaim to Drop GameCube Support
Hey at least in the future if Acclaim wants to try crawling back to Nintendo, Nintendo could say something like "Remember X years ago and what you said? What are you going to do to let us say yes, we'll let you develop games for X system?" (whatever the next gen system is)
*Sound familiar *cough Square*
But I won't be missing Acclaim. All the games they've made for the 'Cube I never really liked or wanted.

I don't know about that. There's a reason Acclaim has been having financial troubles, you know. Their games haven't, in fact, been selling.
The damage from this development is more likely going to be the increased perception that GameCube is not the console for third party developers. That's not a trivial thing, but any developer dropping support would have the same effect.

Re: Acclaim to Drop GameCube Support
Outside of the Xtreme G series this doesn't bother me in the slightest, or wouldn't bother me in the slighest if the cube were the only system that I owned.

3rd party games dont tend to sell best on cube when they are multiplatform, but I point the blame at Acclaim, their suport sucks as it is.

Rumors on the Internet today suggest that Acclaim's new CEO has decided to completely drop support for Nintendo systems. The rumors say that upcoming games like XGRA and Legends of Wrestling III will be finished for GameCube, but no new projects will be started for the system.
We contacted Acclaim about the rumor. They say that quotes in the rumor have been taken out of context, and that the publisher is not actually dropping GameCube or GBA support. Rather, in contrast to their former policy of releasing every title on every system, Acclaim will now evaluate each title and decide which system(s) it best fits. This new publishing strategy goes for GameCube, GBA, PS2, and Xbox. Acclaim is NOT dropping support for Nintendo systems, although it's entirely possible that GameCube will see fewer of the company's games than it previously has.
Acclaim also confirmed that all of the currently announced GameCube titles will be completed and released (barring any specific, unrelated cancellations)."

Acc laim died 5 years ago in my honest opinion. They tried to make money off a game that has hookers having sex with thugs on bikes while doing tricks on bikes and watching two dogs hump eachother...
So this is actually a good thing... Well, at least in my opinion.

Re: Acclaim to Drop GameCube Support
Some games or no games from Acclaim. Won't make a difference to me. I don't think they can save themselves at all if they tried hard. Unless you get the license to the next big movie and hype the game up and then it fails to hold up to its claims. *cough*Atari

Does anybody actually buy any Acclaim games? I've never played an Acclaim game that didn't make me want to die after having played it.
