WWE Smackdown!!! may be #1, again
http://ps2.ign.com/articles/426/426964p1.html
here are the highlights (can't copy because it's in bullet form)
Quote:
-After listening to consumer and press feedback, THQ has decided to overhaul its wrestling game from top to bottom. This year's effort features everything from a new grappling system, four different types of grapples, a countering system, more strategy and moves sets overall for starters. The full list of improvements range from storyline, moves sets, graphics, individual wrestler characteristics, submissions, and animations.
-New Grappling-Based System Four different types of grappling with corresponding move sets tailored to that specific grapple (power move set, submission move set, quick move set and signature move set). Four available moves out of each grapple based on superstar's real life move sets. New two-button countering system. Ability to drag superstars around the mat before putting a move on them. Deeper gameplay experience, more move sets and more strategy.
-Differentiated Superstar Abilities Who you pick really matters...superstars will each have unique strengths and weaknesses based on speed, power, strength and technical abilities. Weight detection...no more picking up Big Show with Spike Dudley!
-New Submission System Including Location Specific Damage Work your opponent's body parts to make him less powerful, more fatigued and in the end...make him submit. New tug-of-war battling system interface. See your opponent desperately try to get to the ropes as you apply even more pressure.
-Animation Overhaul Feel the pain of each move. A new reaction system so your superstars really sell to the moves put on them. See all the new moves available to your disposal to inflict pain on your opponent.
-Graphics so real you can touch them A complete overhaul of the graphics engine. Each superstar will now look exactly like their real life counterpart. 3D crowd. Blood.
-Season Mode Build your superstar's attributes with five core strengths. New original storyline. New money earning system with a whole new shop zone filled with compelling unlockables. Previously mentioned key problems with season mode addressed.
-Overall Presentation Refinements Redesign of sound, camera angles and special effects will put you right in the action with cinematic experience. Superstar Voiceover.
-New Game Modes and Match Types Bra and Panty Match...a whole new experience. The elimination chamber has arrived. First Blood Match. New fully interactive backstage environments take the action outside the ring to unparalleled situations.
-Updated Roster More than 60 superstars including all the top talent. For the first time ever in a WWE videogame...LEGENDS.
-THQ wants to redefine it, not merely improve it. Every aspect is being overhauled based on press and consumer feedback. We'll have more on WWE SmackDown...Here Comes the Pain in the near future.

My focus on my most wanted WWE game just jumped from Raw to SD... but we'll see. This sound damn amazing. Any way I try to look at it it sounds good... I can't see them doing too much wrong with this.

They finally decided to go with 3D crowds?! Hopefully it looks at least half way decent compared to the craptacular look of the 2D models. I'm waiting for next gen. systems to come out so that the wrestlers actually look real enough. Unless THQ found this mystery code that makes them look tons better then before, I don't believe them. Next gen. WWE games will be what I wait for.

Damn, the legends make me wanna get the game...
But as usual, I'll say that every game is supposed to be improved so much and be the new "Best wrestling game" and it never is, for me at least, so I highly doubt SD 5 will be that great. But legends= awesome.

Welcome to the club.
I don't see the point of this reply in this thread though. To do all your Triple H bashing go to the sports forum or join the Smark's Mark usergroup.

I can't remember them saing THIS much about SD4... but eh. This SD is the only one where the preview made it seem like it's a huge turn for the series... In SD4, for example, the prviews stayed away from talking about improving areas I would have wanted them to improve.
But anyway... the main draw for me is the legends too. Hopfully they set up a cool reward systemto unlock them, and ways to make some hae comebacks in season mode.

Re: WWE Smackdown!!! may be #1, again
'Here Comes the Pain' has a new producer...the guy that's been doing the previous SD! games got pushed aside or something. This guy says that TO DATE, the pinnacle in wrestling videogames is 'WWF No Mercy'. He says that the new grappling/countering/submission engine is inspired from AKI's work. And about the submission engine...it's like a tug-of-war. The guy applying the hold hits buttons to have the meter reach 'submit' and the one who's in the hold hits buttons to 'escape'. Early in the match, it's much much easier to escape...but later in the match, and you get, say, the Crossface applied to you, it's easier for your opponent to get you to submit. Anyway, it sounds really cool...You actually have some control over getting someone to tap or getting out of a submission move.
