@$%$**&^ Controller!!!!

I have two controllers, the first party controller the GCN came with and a third party controller my friend bought so we could play multi-player games. Neither work. It actually started in late November/early December. I was playing james Bond: Nightfire when Bond would start moving to the right, like the ontroller was set wrong. I would constantly have to reset the controller only to have it not work a few minutes later. It got worse. Eventually, resetting the controller wouldn't work. When I switched to the third party controller, it was even worse. Not playable.

My friend came over and cleaned the ends out with a toothbrush. He used the third-party controller. It was fine, as if nothing happened. The first-party controller still didn't work, although I could still play with it.

I didn't any new games (and I hadn't beaten all my other ones) so I didn't play the GCN for a while and played with the PS2 and XBox, which I had gotten for Christmas.

Today, I got the OoT/Master Quest bonus disc. Early this morning, before I left to get it, I played some Clone Wars just to pass the time. The first party controller didn't work at all but the third party controller was fine. I was going to buy a new controller with the disc, but since the third party controller was fine, I spent the money on reserving Star Wars: Galaxies and Knight of the Old Republic.

I got home with the bonus disc and started playing Master Quest. As I was playing, Link would go a little to the right whenever I hit one of the other directions (still using the third-party controller). I switched to the first-party controller, hoping it would be fine. It was constantly moving to the right. I decided to just use the third-party controller.

I had to reset the controller a few times but otherwise it was fine, until now. Just now, the controller became unplayable again. Resetting would not help. The first-party controller also didn;t work.

I have NO idea what is wrong. I though it might be the controller port, instead of the controller, but why would then why ould the first and third party controllers work differently?

the only problems I've had with GCN controllers is when some of the buttons wear down. I dont even press them very hard, just after a while they wear down. Even my wave bird shows signs of the buttons wearing down. Piss me the hell off.

My friends had a problem similar the yours. Only it was the C-stick not the control stick. It did things like made you pump fake constantly in Madden, and constantly strafe to the right in Bond. 2 of his controllers had this problem, 2 of them didn't. Strangely, one was a first party, the other was a third party. And even more strange, he had 4 controllers, 2 black and 2 purple. Both the purple ones work fine, while the 2 black ones have the problem I describe. He has a Black Gamecube.

Strangely enough, about an hour after I posted my problem, I decided to try out the controllers again and the third party controller works fine. There's nothing wrong with it.

Nintendo makes really good controllers to date their controllers were the hardest to smash with a hammer. This test included gamecube and ps2/ps1 controllers.

My 2 first party 'Cube controllers have problems. The black one is the Joystick mainly. It's become "loose" and I can't send it in for repairs because the warranty expired. My spice one also went shot on the main joystick so I can't use that anymore. So I had to resort to my Madcatz one which I used until my birthday, then I got a Wavebird so I have been using ol' Wavey for a little over a month now. But I wish I could find a screwdriver so that I could take apart my 2 'Cube controllers since the guy at Nintendo said it would cost too much to repair it. Anyone know where I can find a "triangular" screwdriver?

Haven't had any controller troubles yet. I make a special effort not to take out anger and frustration on my controllers when I encounter a difficult part.

My friend got a triangular screwdriver set on ebay because he needed one to install the backlight that he ordered off another site into his GBA. So I guess you could try and find one at home depot or something, or you could order it online at ebay.

What is a Gamebit Screwdriver? If that isn't the name of the head I need, what's the name and I will look for one on eBay.

Do not hold down any of the buttons as the system is being powered on.

The Instruction booklet that comes with the GCN tells you how to "reset" the controller if you screw it up, I skimmed it once but it didn't help me although it's worth a try.

I have two "Jet Black" GCN controllers that go with my Black GCN and they each have an "odd" problem that I thought for sure was a calibration thing.

I was playing MK: Deadly Alliance with my brother and a friend (If you're an MK fan and haven't bought this game yet, fork out your $50.00 to Midway, this one is worth it, unlike MK 4 and MK Advancwe *Shudders* which were about as much "fun" as watching grass grow), and my Controller, for the life of me, would NOT respond ot the "B" button, my buddy tried it, no go.

"Ok" he said followed by "Power off and swap controllers, lets try that." Since we were playing "Konquest Mode" which is a 1P thing taking turns there was no need for the second controller. Well we powered down the GCN< swapped controlelrs, got through every "B Button" combo for one character and then got to the "Switch Fighting Styles" combos which were doen with the "L" button to switch and the "R" button for the beggining of the move in the new fighting style. Only now, the "R" button wouldn't work!

I was fumed beyond belief, it was too late to call NOA, and I thought it might just be MK: DA or we were just "sucking" at the game.

My buddy goes home and I eat dinner while pondering my "Controller Complex", I decide to test the GCN with antoher game, "Star Wars: Rouge Squadron" is my victim this time.

I take the little GCN Disc, plug it in, and enter the "Training Mode", there's plenty of uses for those two buttons there, right?

Ok, controller #1 "Chokes" on the "R" Button again making it so I have to attempt a "Speed Boost" roughly 14 times. That was a bit of a drag, but I didn't test controller #2.

I opwer down, switch controllers and power up again, once more opening "Training Mode", at least the background is different since it's switched from "Dusk" to "Night", and I attempt to use the "Proton Bombs", the "Proton Torpedoes" and all the toher fun weapons under the "B" button.

It takes me a good five mintues to get the darn thing to fire a lousy Proton Torpedo! Clearly I'm now space debris if this was the "Trench Run" mission, so I am not happy.

Now that I'm outraged (and everyone on the block can hearit too), thinking of pulling a CamFu (NES, or in this case GCN, through a Window), I storm into my Bedroom where I have my nice "Platinum GameCube" which only I can play, because I don't like annoying "brats" *cough little brother cough* touching my nicer things, such as a Platinum GCN, plug the system in, stick "Rouge Leader" in the console and pwoer up.

I open the dreaded "Training MOde" again and play thorugh, doing "Speed Boosts" and firing torpedoes until my luancher is empty, apparently it's not "Rouge Leader", OR MK: DA, which I tried next.

I open up "Conquest" mode again, play as whoever I was playing as on my "Jet Black" GCN, and the combos fly right on by as if nothing was wrong, I should've saved it, btu I was lazy, oh well...

Case and point: I ahve three GCN Cpontrollers 2 Black, one Silver, the Silver one works, the black ones both have problem one has a "mashed" "B" Button and the other has troubel "Sensing" the "R" button. This is a pain because I STILL have to call NOA and see how much they're gonna rob me ot fix the dang controllers, but if I wantr to play Zelda soon, those GCN Controlelrs are gonna need to be in tip-top shape, and I ain't paying $30.00 for another controller when I already paid for two thata r ebalck and one with a Platinum GCN.

I have problems with my original GC controller. Once in a while, the c-stick is not calibrated and it's always pulling to the right. What I do is hold y-x-start for about 3 seconds and it resets the sensors in it and it works fine after that. You can hold those 3 buttons anytime, and you don't need to reset the game.
