Great stuff. Most of the time spent on Jak and Daxter was creating the GOAL engine. Unparalelled draw distance, good polygon count, and fantastic animations. The game itself was also very good. Naughty Dog then shared their technology with Insomniac, who took the GOAL engine and tweaked it to make 'Ratchet and Clank'. R&C kept everything J&D had graphically, and added a lot more. Higher polygon count, crisper textures, and an overall 'shinier' look.
Naughty Dog and Insomniac have made it quite clear that they continue to have a close relationship and continue to share technology. Therefore, I can't wait to see what the the Dawgs can do with the newer, updated GOAL engine. I see them one-upping Insomniac, only to set a new standard for platform games (graphically, at least). Let the games begin

Gotta love Rachet and Clank... But it was the amazing gameplay that is the most important thing about it.
Also the draw distance is even better than that of Mario Sunshine, while managing to keep crisp textures, high polygon counts. Amazing... simply amazing.

hell yeah...I only brought Ratchet and Clank into the picture because it used a modified GOAL engine...if you wanted to talk about its gameplay, I could talk all day. Easily the best 3D platform/adventure game ever made...
I'm interested in seeing if Naughty Dog can push the PS2 even further (and I believe they can). No loading, great texture/pologon work, huge draw distance, superb animation...And since they've been working on this since 2001, I expect big leaps in the gameplay department over the first J&D.
And about Syphon Filter...I hope they can (and they will, no doubt) rework the running animations from the PSX games...Gabe looked like he was doing a commercial for "Oops I crapped my pants"

Hmm, I own Ratchet and Clank, but haven't got started on it yet, other games (Animal Crosssing, NHL 2k3, Metroid Prime) have been occupying my time. I'm very excited to play it, though I have high doubts of it competing with Banjo Kazooie or Mario 64

Ratchet and Clank rocks. Never got a round to J&D... But I will play the sequel.

My mates reckoned Syphon Filter was better than MGS.

Pick up the first game... it's a platinuim title... or that "Greatest Hits" for America. It's worth every penny...

good for them...I'm sure a lot of people agree with them, too
their opinion, although as valid as any other's, is amongst the minority, however. MGS is the preferred game amongst gamers.

I played Syphon Filter alot when i got it, but I think it pales in comparsion to MGS1 as it is among one of the best PS1 games....but that's just my opinion.
I only got the second one last dec because my local roger's video was selling it brand new for $9.95, so I thought might as well get it, being that cheap new.
