The Nintendostation 64
I had a dream two nights ago that told me to make this. Anyways, I thought it would make for a decent topic. Ok, imagine, Nintendo and Sony are fresh in their relationship, and having released the PlayStation for the SNES a few years ago, it's time to jump into the next generation. And, their competitor, Sega, has just released that, after the 32X peripheral, they are planning to release a 64-bit CD-based console with the help of NEC. Now, it's Nintendo's and Sony's turn to get to action to make up for the 16-bit era. Aside from the obvious ones like FF7, what kind of games would this see, and how do you think this console would fare? Do you think OOT would sell as well as it did for real? Also, how would the GameStation 128 shape up to be? Write out a history for something that never was.
Keep in mind, this console has the same specs as the 64, but with just a way larger disc space. Also, the horrid Virtual Boy was never made nor conceived, and Gunpei Yokoi is hard at work on the Game Boy Colour's design, or something. Oh yes, and the CD-i was brutally murdered and the god-awful Zeldas ceased to exist. Or, for fun, we could say that Philips was shocked by the cut off, and went to work with Sega instead of NEC.
(BTW, yes, I made that image. )

Nintendo 64 would have owned if it was CD based. I assume that every single good game on PSX (imagine, all those RPGs that N64 missed out on....) would've ended up on this system, throw in Nintendo's titles and it would have been the best system of all time IMO. And, if N64 was CD based, Nintend would be the worldwide leader in console sales... This is why I wish N64 was CD based, or if Nintendo would just go 3rd party... when you add the awesome games that a system like PS2 has with Nintendo games, PS2 would probably be much better than it already is.
I think Oot would have sold a lot better actually. There would have probably been more people buying this system, so I assume OoT would sell more.

Zelda with FMV....
*imagines Ganondorf slowly standing up form his piano and holding out his left hand, the Triforce of Power shinging brightly on it. He lets out a terrificly evil laugh and it goes back to regular cinema, just like N64 version*
*cries*
Why Nintendo?! Why did you have to stay in cartridge?!
*runs away crying*

Yes, OoT would've had FMV's but the graphics would look worse than what they really are. Even if it came out a year after the """Playstation""" came, it would still look bad. But if Nintendo did go CD, they might've sold better, but at that time, CD's didn't seem fitting since yes, there is a bigger space, but its just that the graphics would be bad and the load times would be through the roof.

Isn't the only reason that the PSX had OK graphics because of the system, not the CD??
So wouldn't the "Nintendostation" be the same N64 graphics, with FMV capabilities, and longer load times?

Joeiss: I would imagine with better hardware it wouldn't be as long as playstation. That's for sure. I can't believe Nintendo was so anal about loading times. That's why we're here today with Gamecube, and PS2. It's kind of sad thinking about how much more we could have had.

Heh, I know... they must've thought that a 10 second loading time would have made people dislike the game or something...I dont see why... tons of good psx games had loading times and no one really cared

But there would have been the possibility of FMV, and if they did put FMV into Zelda, it would have been awesome.

the N64 COULD do FMV. it was done in RE2.
the gamecube surely can.......... Mario didnt have it. from what i seen zelda dont either. myamoto dont like FMV. he thinks the grahpics of the video parts should be the same as the game itself.
