Hershel for Hall of Fame?
When people think about Hershell Walker the word "bust" often comes to their lips. All they seem to remember is the "TRADE". You know the one. The blockbuster trade with the Vikings that traded Walker from the Cowboys to the Vikings for ungodly talent and draft picks. This of course set up the Cowboy's dominance of the NFL in the early 90's.
Meanwhile the Vikings floundered with Walker. Splitting him out at wide receiver at times and never committing to him at running back, he became a non-factor. It wasn't until he came to the Eagles that he reclaimed some of the former brilliance he had enjoyed aty Georgia and in the USFL.
Now many of you might be saying "Hall of Fame? Are you NUTS? He's a washout."
Maybe, but when he retired in 1997 after 14 years in the NFL, he was a washout with the second most all-purpose yards EVER.
18,168 yards from scrimmage.
Thats a whole lot of yards.
So my question is, do you think that he legacy as a footnote in the history of the Cowboy's championships will hurt his chances> Do you think he'll definitely be inducted? Do you think there's no way in HELL he should get in?

Should...maybe.
Will? Hell no.
The only thing walker will ever be rembemberd for was winning 3 super bowls for the cowboys by leaving the team.
And check your stats. All purpose yards would include passing and marino had what? 30,000? He's not in second. Even if it doesn't include passing Rice is #1 and Payton is #2.

I got this from ESPN. You check your stats. As of 1997, when he retired, he was number 2.

Remember this part of my post? I guess not.
I never said they didn't change. I said at the time he retired he was number 2. Please quote me where I said othertwise. You said my stats weren't right, they were, you're wrong.
Simple when you actually read someones post before you reply.

Not to get nitpicky, but he spent 11 years in the NFL and 3 or so years in the USFL with the New Jersey Generals and Memphis Showboats.
If you could figure in his college stats, and the USFL, I would guess he deserves to be in the hall of fame. He did win the Heisman and held a few records at Georgia along with a National recored in something (think it was broken though). He was pretty good I think in the USFL too. Ran for 1,000 yds at least every season during his USFL run.

The yards I quoted were from his NFL career, not USFL. I still think he's in the top ten for all purpose yards. I think thats good enoughy for the Hall, but I doubt he'll get in jusst because of the stigma of "The Trade".
