So I've noticed. They seem rather strange.
Anyway, I bought the DC PSO not long after its release (Tombor's fault). Played it a tad offline, didn't hook me. At first, there's a lot to learn, and I had no clue what I was doing, so I didn't play much. Then I finally got playing online (Tombor's fault) again after downloading and burning a bootable Japanese browser disc to setup the settings for my BBA, so I could use that online. The BBA wasn't supported (officially) in v1. Well after playing online, and asking some questions (like WTF is a mag?), I was hooked and didn't stop playing for 200 hours.
Now I'm online again on Gamecube (Tombor's fault), and hooked. I agree, it's a taste thing. You may like it, you may not. You may just not get it at first, and never play again. If all I did was read about the game, 4 of the exact same levels on 3 difficulties doesn't seem appealing, but I love it. Now with the GC version there's a lot more, and all the stuff I never experienced by not playing PSOv2.
