Question In your opinion, what is worse... guides or cheats?

I was just wondering what you guys think is the worst way to go about beating a game.

GUIDES

+ It only gives you a finger to point you to the right direction
+ If you beat the game, you still beat the game... the guide shows you how, but you did all the on screen work yourself
+ Some knowlege about games you could never get without a guide...

CHEATS

+ You can still be suprised in the game because it doesn't give away the story line
+ You would still have to do mental puzzles on your on
+ Some cheats make the game more enjoyable (big heads, invinceablity)

Here are the list of games, and you give your reccomendation (keep in mind that when I say "Cheat" it means being invincable, and when I say guide, it means it tells you how to beat the game.

Just give a simple "Cheat" or "guide" answer to these games:

1. Goldeneye/Perfect Dark
2. Kingdom Hearts
3. Mario Sunshine
4. Eternal Darknes and/or Resident Evil
5. Grand Theft Auto 3 or Vice City
6. Madden 2003

***list what you think is worse*** (special thanks to DsH)

Then state your opinion

1: Cheat
2: Cheat
3: Guide/cheat
4: Cheat
5: Cheat
6: Who knows, it's a sports game... *shrugs*

(I'm supposed to list the ones I think are worse, right?)

The only way a guide would be worse in Mario's case is if you used the guide constantly to find a ton of the shines... If you get stuck on one and try and try, then look at a guide, it's not as bad...

*shrugs*

Even if you use cheats just to get past certain things, you're just rigging the gameplay itself to be way too easy, whereas if there's anything hard you have to do and you use a guide, the most you can get is tips and you still have to do the stuff yourself...

So yeah and stuff... Egg Salad

Cheats for all of them... I hate people that cheat... this guy i know that comes to this forum but doesnt post uses cheats for ALL games... and it pisses me off.. yeah .. whatever.

Guides jus kinda tell you what to do.. but you still have to do it yourself.. but sometimes the guides will tell you like a REALLY easy wat to do things and thats bad so you dont figure it out yourself...

I know people like that too!

They get a new game and the FIRST thing they want to do is get online and get every cheat they can get. That pisses me off a lot. Like in Goldeneye, I worked for every cheat I got (didn't have them all, but eh)..... and they just get some codes real quick and they got all the cheats for doing nothing! Makes all the hard work seem worthless, and I can't show it off because it means nothing now.

I don't consider any of them bad. If you use a guide and I don't, I could care less. If I prefer talking to every person in the village and you rush through doing minimum work, I don't care. If you want through with invinsibility and I struggle through it, I don't care.

We all play games because we enjoy them. But some people don't enjoy being stumped, or enjoy unlocking everything. If they want to cheat/use a guide/ask for help online, I could care less. Let them have fun.

i never cheat in a game, unless i'm just bored and i'm wanna fool around. i only use guides for impossible-to-find-otherwise secrets and when i get mega stuck in a game (which is rare). i'll beat a game to the best of my ability then i'll usually use a guide to help me make a perfect file.

I was going to say the exact same thing as gekko...

Games are meant to be fun. If using cheats makes it more fun for you, then use them. If a guide makes playing a game for fun, then use it. And if you like using both, then do that, too.

I really dont think there is wrong with cheats or guides, because I usually use guides for my RPGs when im stuck, and cheats on SNES emulators when I just wanna have fun.

There really is no "worse" one out of them both.

If I get really stuck, then out comes the walkthrough. But I don't mind walkthrough's, because as The Game said you still finish it properly...........kinda.

This topic is prompting me to make another thread.............hmm
