Wink EA vs Sega... here's what IGN thinks at least

GAMECUBE

Sega:
1. NFL 2k3 9.0
2. Super Monkey Ball 2 9.0
3. NBA 2k3 8.7
4. NBA 2k2 8.6
5. Super Monkey Ball 8.3
6. Beach Spikers 8.2
7. Sega Soccer Slam 8.2
8. Crazy Taxi 6.9
9. Sonic Adventure 2 Battle 6.9
10. Home Run King 6.2

Average: 8.0

EA:
1. NCAA Football 2003 8.9
2. Madden 2003 8.8
3. Madden 2002 8.7
4. NHL 2003 8.7
5. FIFA 2002 8.6
6. NBA Street 8.6
7. NASCAR Thunder 8.5
8. NBA Live 2003 8.5
9. Knockout Kings 2003 8.3
10. FIFA 2002 (World Cup) 8.2

Average: 8.6

Discussion: Yep, every game on EA's list is sports games, so that should say somthing about the Sega sports vs EA sports war at least. Oh, wait a minute, it seems that all but 2 games on Sega's list to recieve over a 8.0 are sports games! Maybe Sega isn't as good at Non-sports games as we thought. On to X-Box

XBOX

Sega:
1. Jet Set Raidio Future 9.1
2. NFL 2k3 9.1
3. GUNVALKYRIE 9.0
4. World Series Baseball 9.0
5. NBA 2k3 8.9
6. NBA 2k2 8.8
7. Sega GT 2002 8.8
8. Sega Soccer Slam 8.3
9. NFL 2k2 8.3
10. House of the Dead 3 8.1

Average: 8.7 (8.74)

EA:
1. NHL 2002 9.0
2. SSX Tricky 9.0
3. NCAA Football 2003 8.9
4. Knockout Kings 2002 8.8
5. Madden 2003 8.8
6. NHL 2003 8.7
7. Madden 2002 8.6
8. F1 2001 8.5
9. NASCAR Thunder 2003 8.5
10. NBA Live 2003 8.5

Average:8.7 (8.73)

Discussion: Sega pulls out a close win... if the list added one game EA would have won. Sega's next game up got a horrific 6.8 while EA's next game on the list got a 8.5. With this fact known, I would personally give the victory to EA, but hey, it's either even (too close to call) or EA when we toss in the next game. Take the results however you want it.

PLAYSTATION 2

Sega
1. Virtual Fighter 4 9.3
2. NFL 2k3 9.2
3. NFL 2k2 9.0
4. NBA 2k3 8.7
5. NBA 2k2 8.6
6. Rez 8.5
7. Sega Sports Tennis 8.5
8. Gungrave 8.1
9. Ecco the Dolphin 7.8
10. Crazy Taxi 7.1

(Tell me if I missed somthing, cause after NBA 2k2 finding Sega scores got a bit hard, I clicked on all types of wrong games)

Average:8.5

EA
1. SSX Tricky 9.4
2. NBA Street 9.3
3. SSX 9.3
4. Madden 2002 9.2
5. NHL 2002 9.2
6. Madden 2003 9.1
7. FIFA 2001 9.0
8. Madden 2001 9.0
9. NCAA 2002 9.0
10. Need for Speed 2 9.0

*trys to hold in laughter*

Average: 9.2 (9.15)

Discussion:

Overall Sega Average: 8.4
Overall EA Average:8.8

And the winner: EA

Closing Comments: Scores may mean nothing, or they may mean everything, all I know is this shocked me and probably you either way. By this time, I expected Sega to be pulling off much higher marks, but I guess it just ain't so. Once Sega went 3rd party, they acctually thought they could beat EA. On the sales charts, and on the scores charts, EA is winning.

Just making all of you guys aware of this

*loads shotgun*

It's a short drive to the E.A. building from here I reckon. >= D

Hahaha... naw. It's good EA's finally moving along nicely. I wish Sega were still better though.... Thanks for posting, that was pretty interesting.

I dont see the point of this, competition is pretty stupid. Although I'm no big sports fan, except for hockey, as far as I'm concerned, Sega is better, at least in my opinion. For one, I'd like to see EA make a game similar to SMB2, PSO, PH series, Shenmue, etc. I've never seen any good non sports games come from them, I guess that shows how amazingly talented they are... Not that that's bad or anythin, at least they're good for sports games.

And I think Sega is pretty dumb by always trying to compete with EA, especially by releasing games on the same day as EA, etc. If EA's games sell better or get better reviews then that's their own fault.

I agree with you Crono... Sega trying to compete with EA is just stupid. EA has a lock on the one of the biggest genre market in the industry, they should let them be, and just do thier own thing.

Instead, they are prting 80 games from DC, and rushing as many games out for as many systems as possible. EA isn't even that bad with it.Besides VF 4 and SMB, what has sega done but shoot out a lot of crap?

I hate when people say they are better than EA... that's basically the reason for the topic, and the point of the topic.

If Sega would slow down to breath, and try to think more about quality instead of quickness and amount of games released, they could be a killer developer like Konimi and Capcom... instead, they are trying to release as many games as EA, and they are maintaining a lower quality level.

(By the way, sports games dominate both lists... Also, if I would have did tyhe top 15 on each system, you would see that EA's non sports games are competitive with Sega's non sports games except SMB and VF4)

Its all more opinoin than anything. I can honestly say that if we took the EA and SEGA names off of their respective sports games, I would enjoy Sega's more. I just think they make better sports games, wether they get better reviews or not...and counting ports of old dreamcast games is kind of unfair I think....

If those ports were taken off the lists... scores wise EA would have stomped them even worse.
