Default Latest American Console And Game Sales (September 2002)

This comes right from IGN:

http://cube.ign.com/articles/374/374850p1.html

Here's a quick summary of the Sept 2002 sales in the US:

Consoles:

PS2: 500 000 units - 11.3 million total
Xbox: 175 000 units - 2.8 million total
Gamecube: 168 000 - 2.3 million total

And the top 10 games for that month were:

1.Madden on PS2 - 375 000 units
2.Kingdom Hearts on PS2 - 345 000 units
3.Super Mario Sunshine on GCN - 266 000 units (totaling 616 000 since release)
Starfox Adventures on GCN - 170 000 units
Tekken 4 on PS2 - doesn't give exact figures, but sales are similar to SFA
Socom on PS2 - same as Tekken 4
7.Animal Crossing on GCN - over 100 000
8.Turok on PS2 - about 65 000
9.Turok on Xbox - about 65 000
10.Turok on GCN - about 35 000

So Gamecube still hasn't passed Xbox is console sales, even with SMS and SFA, but in software, GCN kicked ass (compared to Xbox), as it had 4 of the top 10 best selling gams of the month.

As far as Super Mario Sushine, it's doing well, but not amazing.

The figures that I've seen regarding SMS (up to the end of September) are 616 000 in the US, 690 000 in Japan, and about 200 000 in Europe.

That's 1.506 million so far.
For most games, that's great, but considering this is the first real Mario game in 6 years, I don't think it's all that many sales.

I think in total, SSB:M sold about 2.4 million units worldwide to date. I'm not sure if SMS will surpass this or not.

Overall it was a very good month for Nintendo, but you would've thunk SMS would have sold more consoles that that...but im a little suprised Star Fox and Animal Crossing made the list that high...

One year... Mario and Smash Brothers released... and Nitnendo still hasn't passed Xbox in sales?

This ain't looking like Nintendo's generation.

-EDIT-

Not to mention they lost Rare...

I guess the big name franchise just can't do what they used to... I think it's time for Nintendo to pull the Pokemon RPG on GCN card.

Well, they are still pretty close, at least enough to make it somewhat difficult for MS to pass in Worldwide sales. I suspect Rareware may help some...At least hear and in europe.

But I hope metroid does well for nintendo, because if it does we may end up with many more mature-oriented games like that (new series hopefully).

I got to agree with Justin here...it's time for Nintendo to unleash the Pokemon.

If they do that, I'm sure they'll over take Xbox in USA and I also would expect Japan sales to sky rocket...of course this is if Nintendo doesn't release the game to late...I think this christmas would have been an ideal time to release it.....oh well atleast they got Metroid and Zelda.

BTW does anyone wonder when these new franchises that Nintendo is making are going to surface??

I dont think pokemon will the savior either really, I dont think its near as popular as it used to be...maybe I think that because my brother and his friends seem to have grown out of it...but overall I think it has slowed down quite a bit...I could be wrong though...

hehe, PS2 is still ripping up the sales charts. I wonder when it will ever slow down...probably not any time soon. And I really don't think Pokemon can "save" Nintendo...I'm sure most people are gettin sick of all these new Pkmn, I mean like, the GBA Ruby and Sapphire have 351 pkmn in them. damn.

New generation of gamers that will love Pokémon.

I can't believe X-Box's selling better than GCN worldwide...
GC's doing MUCH better in Japan,
GC's beating XB sales in Europe (not by much though) and
X-Box's more popular in the USA.

This has to mean that XB sells WAY better than GCN in America...

Nintendo has Metroid Prime and Zelda coming up... XB has Fimble (or whatever Project Ego is called now) and another game...

Xbox isn't selling better worldwide.

USA:
Xbox - 2.8 million
GCN - 2.3 million

Europe:
Xbox - 985 000
GCN - 1.1 million

(I read these European stats somewhere, but I don't have a link)

Japan:
Xbox - 260 000
GCN - about 1.8-2 million

SO worldwide, Xbox has about 4.1 million sales, while GCN has 5.2-5.4 million.

SMS actually passed the 300,000 mark quite a while ago in Europe.

Oh, and it's most likely reaching the half million mark.

Lets see...

In Japan
GCN>Xbox

In US
GCN
In Euro
GCN>Xbox (until news gets around that UK's own Rare is sold... then GCN is doomed)

Nope they won't. People hate Bill Gates and his Micro$oft. They see that the X-Box doesn't have more fun games than the GCN and they don't kick as much on graphics as some Americans do.

Well that's my theory...
