This comes right from IGN:

Here's a quick summary of the Sept 2002 sales in the US:
Consoles:
PS2: 500 000 units - 11.3 million total
Xbox: 175 000 units - 2.8 million total
Gamecube: 168 000 - 2.3 million total
And the top 10 games for that month were:
1.Madden on PS2 - 375 000 units
2.Kingdom Hearts on PS2 - 345 000 units
3.Super Mario Sunshine on GCN - 266 000 units (totaling 616 000 since release)
Starfox Adventures on GCN - 170 000 units
Tekken 4 on PS2 - doesn't give exact figures, but sales are similar to SFA
Socom on PS2 - same as Tekken 4
7.Animal Crossing on GCN - over 100 000
8.Turok on PS2 - about 65 000
9.Turok on Xbox - about 65 000
10.Turok on GCN - about 35 000
So Gamecube still hasn't passed Xbox is console sales, even with SMS and SFA, but in software, GCN kicked ass (compared to Xbox), as it had 4 of the top 10 best selling gams of the month.
As far as Super Mario Sushine, it's doing well, but not amazing.
The figures that I've seen regarding SMS (up to the end of September) are 616 000 in the US, 690 000 in Japan, and about 200 000 in Europe.
That's 1.506 million so far.
For most games, that's great, but considering this is the first real Mario game in 6 years, I don't think it's all that many sales.
I think in total, SSB:M sold about 2.4 million units worldwide to date. I'm not sure if SMS will surpass this or not.
