Default Kind of like "Is This A good Deal?" but not...

A friend of mine has mentioned that he has the original Dragon Warrior4 for the NES. I liked DWs I,II, and III on the GBC and would really like to have this game, which I told him. I said that if he gave it to me, he wouldn't have to pay me back for my Advance Wars (which he lost when I let him borrow it for the summer).

He said "Sure, if you'll pay the other $50." I was pretty surprised at this because I KNOW that DW4 can't be that much. Unfortunately, he says he found some place that has all the prices of these old games and such and he says that it is worth $90 (or maybe $80... I'm sure what he said). Now when he finds some resource he sticks to it and it takes a lot to convince him that that resource is wrong, whether it is or not. Plus, I asked him if I could buy it so its not like he's really wanting to sell it and willing to lower the rpice just so long as he gets his money.

What I want to know is if I can't get the price down should I just pay this price or not? Is DW4 fairly difficult to find or will I easily find it for a cheaper price (without EBay or ROMs)?

Is it worth getting screwed?

It depends on two things: Does the game come with the case and instruction booklet and are you a big Dragon Warrior fan? If you answered yes to both, then you should take the guy up on his offer; It's a good deal. By the way, I will destroy you for stealing my idea! Oh, and thanks for not shrugging and walking away.

EDIT: Never mind, you did shrug and you did walk away. I guess I was just hoping that you wouldn't.

I actually forgot to shrug and walk away but I edited it later

As for the game, I don't think he has the box or instructions and I'm not exactly a HUGE DW fan, I just liked the first three and would really like to play the second.

Besides, I know its technically a bad deal. I've bought a gold cartridge Legend of Zelda and Zelda II: Adventure of Link for less than what he's wanting for DW4. What I'm wanting to know if this is the only deal I'll get without having to resort to EBay or ROMs or if I should pass it up and find it somewhere else.

DW4 was ok...but I thought DW3 was the best...I would stick with a ROM though.

ROMs are evil. They come from the very pits of Hell. I refuse to go near them.

So....

Anyone else want to help me?

I don't really get what you mean by no ROMs and no ebay. Are you just going to buy the game from someone you know? If so, then buy from this guy because (get this) I don't think that too many of your friends own th original Dragon Warrior. But who knows, you might live in this crazy town where copies Dragon Warrior are even easier to find than ones of Metal Gear Solid 2.

Well I hate ROMs and I really don't trust EBay. I wasn't really finding someone else I know who has DW4, but maybe finding a copy at Game XChange (a store that specializes in old used games) or at FuncoLand or something.

I dunno about the whole DW4 deal, but I'm pretty sure there was no special edition of Zelda 1 or 2... meaning they were ALL gold, and people saying "GOLD EDITION" like when they sell it on Ebay means nothing, and they just use it to make some people think it's something special...

I guess the only non-gold edition would be ones where all the gold paint got scratched off

But I've heard mixed things... some say they're all gold, some say they're not... so I dunno... But all I know is I've never heard of a non-gold version of the games...

Just thought I'd say that...

Dragon Warrior 4 is really good. It has this, dare I say, Pulp Fiction story telling approach. You play a bunch of different peoples stories and they all intertwine at the end. It was extremely long too. Never did finish it....

Your friend, at least price wise, is about right. DW4, if it has a manual and box and sleeve and all the maps (2, maybe 3 if I remember) can fetch 90-100 (if its factory sealed still 150-200). But just the cart? Maybe 30-50. I saw DW4 at a Funcoland for $30. EB Games, if there's one around you that does old stuff, had it last for $24.99 (at least that's the price when I was working there). It actually shouldn't be too tough to just get the cart. I've seen cart-onlys on ebay go for about 30. If you want you can go to Gamestop's, or EB's, site and do an advance order. Whenever it shows up get it then.

I don't want to touch the ROMs thing. I have no prob really with them. But I'd rather own the actual game myself too.
