say good bye to Appeal and Outcast 2!
Quote:
According to various reports, Belgian developer Appeal has closed its doors. Attempts to clarify the situation today have been fruitless, with no one at the company picking up the phone and no emails getting through. As one source put it today, "They're probably down the pub."
Reports have surfaced in the last 24 hours that the company is on the verge of filing for bankruptcy and has actually ceased to operate. A German fansite started the onslaught by posting a transcription of an interview with an anonymous ex-staffer, saying that the coffers were dry and rats were jumping the sinking Belgian ship. Well, he didn't use rubbish clichés, but you get the idea.
Outcast 2: The Lost Paradise was the main project at the company, the PC and PlayStation 2 sci-fi sequel now widely reported to be dumped. The original garnered praise, at least during its development cycle, for its use of (volumetric pixels) voxels to create 3D environments instead of polygons. The game itself, a free-roaming adventure, provoked a distinctly mixed reaction.
While Infogrames published Outcast, the publisher today distanced itself from the sequel. "Put it this way, it's not on any of our release schedules," said an Infogrames spokesperson today. "All I've seen of Outcast 2 is early screenshots."
Adieu, Appeal. Nous vous saluons.
