Default Rare on PS2 (from PSM)

Here's the little news story...

Quote:

Nintendo developer three months into new PS2 game?

Just before we went to press, word arrived at the PSM offices from reliable sources that renowned British developer Rare has started work on PS2 games. Up to now, Rare has been developing games exclusively for Nintendo. Including the Banjo-Kazooie series on N64 and the upcoming starfox Adventures for Gamecube. The company has had PS2 development kits for at least three months now, but details on it's first PS2 project(s) are still closely guarded at present. Perfect Dark, it's futuristic first-person-shooter franchise, is one rumored possibility. We'll hopefully know more following E3.

Now obviously we didn't find out more at E3, but we also don't know that Rare is sticking with Nintendo (unless you are 100% sure because of that article in some european magazine which is like the only source reporting that they're 100% sure Rare is staying with Nintendo when pretty much everything else has all these rumors from "reliable sources" flying all over the place that they won't, and there is still no official word from Rare or Nintendo)... And they didn't say that we WILL find out at E3, they said hopefully we will, so even though this may be outdated a bit it doesn't mean it's crap...

But I dunno... I don't know the whole deal with where these rumors are coming from, so this could have just been an article based on what all those other rumors people are hearing about are based on... but still I figured I'd post it...

So what do you think?

As long as they don't do what Capcom did to Sony, I think it's ok (RE series exclusive to GC).

I have all 3 consoles, but I'd prefer the GC to have the Rare games.

But at this stage, I want an official statement from Rare.

Well, Sony is still getting an RE game, RE Online. Plus, (I saw this in a diff. post) but the PS2 is getting more games than the other 2 consoles (If I'm wrong, not my fault).

Yeah I think PS2 is getting more capcom games than the other consoles... Onimusha 2, RE online, DMC2, Capcom vs. SNK or one of those fighters, and more...

Which is why losing the RE series really wasn't a very big blow to PS2... Great gain for Nintendo, not a really big deal for PS2 owners... unless maybe you only bought your PS2 for RE4

Yeh true, but for me the only Capcom games I ever liked were the fighters (some of them) and RE/Megaman (non 3d versions).

Played Onimusha and DMC, thought they were average. Actually I wish I never bought them Very unsatisfying. So the sequals most probably interest me the slightest.

Capcom Vs SNK2 is coming to GC as well, and apparently it's a really good fighting game, but I still don't understand why (especially compared to KOF).

RE Online? How's that gonna work?

Yeh the RE exclusivity did affect Sony, but not that much.

Just hope Rare doesn't do anything like that to Nintendo

Well it seems to be the normal 3rd person gameplay of the other RE games (except gun survivor games)... With various characters... all playing at once... probably more enemies and such... maybe some things you have to do as a team (similar to that Zelda multiplayer game for the LttP port on AGB... like "This gigantic *whatever* is too big to be pushed by one person... GEE WHAT EVER SHALL YOU DO!?")... And stuff...

But yeah I dunno 100% for sure... but it looks like it plays like all the normal REs, and chances are it will involve having to work as a TEAM (instead of a single person who can survive hordes of zombies and other monsters while all those other people you see are like "OH NO A ZOMBIE! *stands in place*.... *gets bitten* AAAHHHHHHHH! *dies*"... *shrugs*

i don't care if rare goes multiplatform as long as they don't quit developing for GC or something. i'd like to see PD only on GC but if that doesn't happen, it better be on PS2, cause i don't have or plan on getting xbox. so i guess what i'm saying is its fine, i have a ps2 and GC, just don't develop for xbox!

I dunno if I like that idea. I mean survival/horror games aren't really meant for online. Well maybe we'll wait and c

IT'S BULLOCKS! GYAAAAAAAH...(jk) Actually it's very possible, but I could care less either way. I don't mind Rare going multi-platform as long as they continue to support the GC.

Prefect Dark ?? Isn't that a owned by Nintendo??

Well if they do go third party..good luck to them...and if they announce it I hope they do it soon cause I'm tired of all the rumors and speculation about Rare. Just announce it already..if it is indeed true. Bah

Perfect Dark won't go far. Last time I checked Nintendo owned the rights to that. And of course it's rumored, it was their last big game.

And I honestly doubt Rare's ability to succeed outside the Nintendo platform. Rare can make non-Nintendo franchise games? Sure they can. I mean, Kameo has no hype at all, Jet Force Gemeni wasn't that good, and Conker explains itself. Banjo-Kazooie is a great game, but I've really never seen anyone buy a N64 for it, or any non-N64 owner really care for it.

People want Rare for GoldenEye, PD, KI, and the classic Donkey Kong games, all of which they can never continue. Rare can go ahead and make games for other platforms, honestly, I think it hurts them the most.

Wow, Kameo going to Xbox and PS2! Guess what? No one will really give a damn. Star Fox is being developed for the arcade, but not by Rare. Perfect Dark could easily be Retro's next game, considering Metroid made a huge presence at E3, so they can't be too bad at making FPS.

Nintendo can do just fine without Rare, not saying they want to, but they hardly need Rare to sell consoles and make money. The question really is, how well can Rare do without Nintendo? Not many publishers will support a company who only produces games every 2 years. And when they lose all the games that made them famous, they are basically starting at the bottom.

That is true. Nintendo is doing great without much help from Rare on the 'Cube so far. So going multi wouldn't hurt Nintendo as much as people think it might. But as long as they still give the 'Cube the support, I'm happy

Which is how all companies start out, and if any other company can start at the bottom and make their way up, surely Rare could to, right? Even if they lose the famous titles, doesn't mean their games won't be good... and if games are good, then hopefully enough people know who rare is and... stuff...

As for the games you listed... I dunno about JFG or Kazooie games, but I thought Nintendo fans go on about how conker sold bad because it came out when N64 was pretty much dead... And yet it's also proof of how Rare won't sell games without big names? It's not rare's fault that the game didn't sell well if it didn't sell well because N64 was dead... although it probably would have sold a bit better if they held it over and released it on NGC... but still...

As for PD... even if Nintendo owns the rights and stuff, it was still made by Rare and it still sold well... why? It's a rare First Person Shooter... Like goldeneye (which also wasn't some Nintendo franchise... although it was still some other big one )... Rare makes good FPS... and I think that enough people in the game world place would know what goldeneye is and hopefully (if rare made some new First Person Shooter on say... PS2 ) enough people would be like "WHOA DUDE MAN THEY MADE GOLDENEYE SWEET WHOA DUDE"...

I mean sure maybe their games were big because they were Nintendo franchises... but it doesn't mean that their other games won't sell well on other systems... Why didn't they sell well on N64? Gee maybe cuz most people who buy N64 want it for NINTENDO'S games... and when you stick star fox or some other big Nintendo franchise on it, it becomes mega-hyped and stuff... If it doesn't have one, there's less of a chance of it selling big... ESPECIALLY on a Nintendo console...

Kameo has no hype? Gee, whyever could that be... maybe because we don't even know much about it (at least I don't think we do) and Rare is making another fairly small game by the name of Star Fox Adventures which everyone is paying a lot of attention to... It's not a major franchise game, and it's coming out in the middle of all these major franchise games... so it gets buried by them... this is what happens with a lot of games on PS2... some still get great reviews... 8's and 9's... but hey WHO CARES!? Metal Gear Solid 2 and FFX are coming out! WOOOO!

But maybe they will do bad if they go multiplatform... but hey, I can't see the future and neither can you, so if they do go multiplatform, we'll just have to wait and see how they do...
