Thoughts on Call of Duty
I'm curious, I hear about Call of Duty, all the time from other sources (being one of gaming's biggest franchises, its hard not to talk about), but I've never really seen much discussion about the franchise since Modern Warfare 2 here.
So what are your thoughts on the franchise?
Do you think it has run its course?
Are you rooting for Battlefield 3 this year?
Are you buying Modern Warfare 3 this year?

Re: Thoughts on Call of Duty
I still believe it's a solid franchise. Yes, it's getting old but in my opinion they've managed to maintain the same quality over the years.
I don't really know much about BF3 to say anything about it, but I'm guessing it's going to be good.
And no, I'm not getting MW3 (or BF3, for that matter). I don't want to get caught up in more multiplayer madness.

Re: Thoughts on Call of Duty
I'll probably get MW3 if it's as good or better than MW2. The campaign is really fun, special ops was really fun, and I enjoy the multiplayer with friends.
I think the only people who look down on MW3 are gaming hipsters, because it's become so mainstream.

Re: Thoughts on Call of Duty
I'm into the Call of Duty series but I got BF:BC2 on the cheap during a Steam sale earlier this year and it's pretty solid stuff, so I'm looking forward to BF3. I'm gonna be speccing a new PC around it to be able to play it closer to the release date.
As far as MW3 goes, I think it'll be alright. I've been reading that the campaign is supposed to have some big payoff for people that have been playing the games since the first Modern Warfare so I dunno. The multiplayer is always pretty solid (even though I never keep up with it because I'm not that good at it).
Maybe I'll preorder it so I don't feel bad about spending all that money at once when it comes out. I probably won't have the money for it when the time comes around anyway. There are so many good games coming out this fall.

Re: Thoughts on Call of Duty
I played Call of Duty into the ground. Both 4 and MW2. BF3 seems interesting, and looks gorgeous. Ill hold judgment on MW3 until i see some reviews.

Re: Thoughts on Call of Duty
Personally, I thought Call of Duty was good the first couple of games, the ones that focused on WWII. But I think it has lost something over the years...
actually let me re-phrase that. The first couple of entries in the series were really good, but to me now they are just throwing the exact same game out year after year. Its not bringing anything new to the table anymore.
I am really excited about MW3, especially now that I have a PC that can run it

I haven't been really driven to playing the recent Call of Duty entries on the PC if only because they don't allow people to run their own servers anymore. I thought that was fun because you could do mods and the like for some variety with what you're playing. I also think Activision does shitty ports for their PC games compared to the console alternatives.
DICE originally developed for the PC and you can tell they're trying to reach out to the PC market with BF3 by making the PC version of the game support bigger maps, more players, and improved visuals over the console iterations.

Re: Thoughts on Call of Duty
That's because PC games don't sell and this is a business.
DICE also has pretty nice engine which scales well to newer hardware, which is nice. Not sure where COD sits, since they aren't public about their tech. I can't wait to see BF3, but I don't really look forward to playing it.
