I don't understand, why did Democrats flee instead of staying and voting against it? Seems a bit childish and unprofessional of elected officials.

Because they would lose the vote. Apparently in today's political climate elections only have consequences when you get your way. If not, go hide.

We've become a nation increasingly ruled by children.

So???? I still dont understand the reason for it. I voted for Kerry in 2004 even though it was pretty much expected he would lose to Bush. (which turned out to be wonderful, thanks America!)

And im not sure what to say about this because Ive been busy lately with a new job and having been keeping up with news as much as I usually do. Usually I chalk this kind of stuff up to Corporate greed (with good reason), but I guess I cant really do that since its the government this time

When I say "lose the vote" I'm referring to voting on legislation not elections. The democrats do not have enough votes to stop the proposed legislation because they are the minority, so instead of allowing elections to have consequences, they are using a legislative rule to keep the vote from taking place.

Basically, they are overruling the democratic process in a Republic. When your elected representative is silenced, you are silenced.

So far, while some people are undecided on the issue, there is a 10 point ability advantage for the Republicans. The Democrats might be making strategic error.

I will say I do believe SOME (not all or even most, but SOME) teachers are way over paid. Public Teacher salaries are public knowledge available online (at least in IL). From looking at salaries over the years, I know I had a few horrible teachers that were making 80 and 90 thousand dollars a year. Most of the teachers making that much did have their Masters Degrees and had been teaching for a long time, but that definatley did not make them good teachers.
