Default PAL Xbox's suck just as much as PAL PS2's

I'll make this short.

Hyper have reported that PAL Xbox's DO NOT come with HDTV support.

Great huh?

Do PAL TVs actually support it?

I dunno, don't you guys use NTSC TVs over there too?

Well they must. Coz when we get HDTV here, it will be PAL.

We use PAL.

PAL TVs have some sort of frame rate limit. Basically, your TV can't handle HDTV.

Last time I checked, PAL TVs couldn't display the same speeds as NTSC TVs, and for some reason, I doubt HDTV support would really matter over there, unless it was running on a NTSC TV.

No our Tv's can handle the frame rate if developers tweak PAL games to run @ 60hz. We have 100hz tv's as well

I have a 51cm Wega and it runs 60hz perfect. Some older Tv's cannot display games @ 60hz.

But the Xbox console itself doesn't support HDTV. That's what this magazine said (highly reliable).

I don't have HDTV...........yet.

So if current PAL tv's can support 60hz, then HDTV would as well.

Quote from Hyper

"Microsoft ceased all future shipments of the HD AV pack after complaints began to surface from users that the PAL Xbox wasn't actually able to support the HD Video modes. One of the features that was most appealing in the initial promotions of the Xbox system, was that it was "future-proof" for digital and HD Tv's. The NTSC hardware has full HDTV support, so why the feature was removed from the PAL unit is quite mystifying. Upon reading a document on converting NTSC games to PAL for Gamecube, we noticed that developers are required to remove Progressive Scan support in PAL games. So there's a clue."

So it seems like it's MS that stuffed us round. I dunno wot progressive scan lines are

Let's say a game is running at 60fps, right? Constant for the sake of this example. Normally, which is called interlaced mode, your TV with display all the even lines on one frame, an all the odds on the next. So in reality, you're only getting 30fps, because you only get a half frame each time.

In progressive scan mode, the TV displays the entire frame each time. So when playing at 60fps, 60 full frames are drawm every second.

The result is a much clearer picture, with better color, and it can handle speed a little more smoothly.

PAL TV's actually display more lines than NTSC, and 60 Hz is pretty much the norm here. Though newer TV's can offer 100Hz.

None of the PAL consoles support anything above 60 Hz, not even GC. It's because HDTV's arent as popular in PAL regions as they are in America.

So without progressive scan, we're getting half the frame rate? And a worse of picture all around.

Well I have a Wega, and it seems to be running all of the GC games perfectly. I take it progressive scan is being used.

For some reason many of my mates aren't concerned with 50Hz and all that, but I'm the very picky type, and when I c jerky or slow FMV/realtime, makes me feel as if i'm getting a dodgy product.

The dodginess of it all

Bobcat, you aren't getting Progressive Scan because the PAL systems don't support it. I know, it's stupid, but everyone was pretty glad when they announced support for 60 Hz.

It doesn't matter if you TV supports it, it depends on the developers, and Nintendo didn't include P.S for the PAL GC

You are probably getting 60Hz, because it is alot better than 50Hz, though you would need the RGB scart to be able to run the games in 60Hz.

I am getting 60Hz, but if the PAL GC hasn't included PS, then how come the PAL GC games look flawless? Like they don't have any Video standard issues?
