Need Help
I just got glasses to correct nearsightedness (damn, that is a big word) in my right eye. FYI near-sighted-ness means I can't see stuff far away. I'm +25 in one eye and -2 in the other, whatever that means.
I've been breaking in the new glasses (I'm a few hours into it) and it's brutal. This is my first time wearing glasses, and my two eyes are way different.
Here's my question:
In my bad eye, with the glasses I am now able to read things far away that would otherwise be blurry. HOWEVER, I used to be able to read things close up with my bad eye, and now when I wear the glasses I have trouble reading things up close.
Is this normal? Will my eyes adjust (they told me 1 week...FML). Is my prescription slightly off? Anyone have first-hand experience with this.
I just want to get my pron on and everything is....I dunno...macabre. That is a good descriptive word.

Re: Need Help
If all you have is near...ness, then you ought to still be able to see up close with your glasses on. I don't remember about the adjustment period, it's been too long.

Well, the glasses make everything smaller. I'm not sure how that all works, being that my problem is not being able to see things in the distance. So now everything in my bad eye is miniature but I can see stuff far away.
I dunno, they said a week. I'm hoping it's just the adjustment period. The brain is the problem, of course, not the eyes. It can adapt to just about anything...even if you wear glasses that invert your vision:

In his 1896 paper [12], George Stratton reported on experiments in which he wore eyeglasses that inverted his visual field of view. Stratton argued that since the image upon the retina was inverted, it seemed reasonable to examine the effect of presenting the retina with an ``upright image''.
His ``upside-down'' glasses consisted of two lenses of equal focal length, spaced two focal lengths, so that rays of light entering from the top would emerge from the bottom, and vice-versa. Stratton, upon first wearing the glasses, reported seeing the world upside-down, but, after an adaptation period of several days, was able to function completely normally with the glasses on.

It just takes time.

Re: Need Help
+25 or +2,5? +25 would be..wow.
Anyway, I've been prescribed glasses almost 8 years ago, but started wearing them regularly for the last 6 months. It'll probably take about a month to adjust, but I still sometimes get headaches.

Re: Need Help
Been wearing glasses for 15 years (damn Game Boy). Still have an adjustment period between glasses even if it's the same prescription but different frames (edges of the lenses change). My eyes are the same though.
How close up are we talking about? Can you take off your glasses to read or just rather wear them all the time? I can see better really up close without my glasses but have to be further back with my glasses on to see with the same clarity.

This has never happened to me before, however, I wear contacts almost all the time as opposed to glasses. If this doesn't clear up in a week I would go back and speak to someone.

Re: Need Help
I got glasses in the 8th grade and I remember it taking a little while to "get used to them" However, I don't remember any specific problems with up close vision as you describe.
That being said, I got Lasik Eye surgery a little over a month ago, and its the best thing I have ever done. If anyone was curious about it and has any questions about it, please feel free to ask.

Yeah, not sure on the +25 thing or whatever. Don't quote me on that.

Yessir! I will give it a week or two.
To clarify: with my bad eye (right eye), when I am not wearing glasses I can read the words on my computer screen without any issue. Things just become a shitty blur when I start looking at stuff past a few feet in front of me. When I put the glasses on and just look with my right eye, the words on my computer are a bit blurry, smaller, and harder to focus. BUT, I can get it to sort of focus.
I've proposed 3 explanations, and have given myself a 2-week deadline to see improvement (no pun intended) or go back to recheck the prescription.
1) It is a bad prescription.
2) My brain is still adjusting to having 2 different fields of depth in each eye. Each eye sends a separate picture to the brain, but it gets combined into one picture.
3) This is just a caveat of having glasses for nearsightedness. We shall see.
And thank you for the input so far, folks.
