Re: Nerds on the Rocks - Now on iTunes!
So I liked the second one very much. Great work from all three hosts. Magus, you're great at keeping the conversation going, and Xantar is opinionated on a lot of things, which makes a good host. Thanks for new member dietele for stepping up to the plate to co-host, which is daunting especially with two long-time members (who both obviously have a lot to say ). I only got to listen to the first section and some of the second, but I think they were the most interesting for me.
Just one constructive criticism. Keep the running length down. Actually, what was the running length? I think it should be 30 minutes or less. Ought to be able to get a lot said for three topics in 30 minutes.

Gonna have to disagree and say an hour is the sweet spot for a weekly discussion show. As long as they don't keep talking just to fill the time.

I'm up for having no real time frame. I feel that if it goes an hour, it goes an hour.
If it goes 30 minutes, it goes 30 minutes.
And if its 5 minutes of Munk screaming into a mic so be it.

Re: Nerds on the Rocks - Now on iTunes!
The running time for the first was about 55 minutes or so. The second ran for an hour and five minutes. While yes, listening to something for an hour can be time consuming, I find it's best to listen to when driving or walking, etc. If you do a lot of driving or being out of the house, it's great to have something to listen to.
And yes I'll applaud dietele as well as keatonmr for stepping up with I guess you could call them GT vets. Hopefully we'll have them around for more!

Re: Nerds on the Rocks - Now on iTunes!
Forgot other folks might not have as much listening time as me. My headphones might as well be permanently attached to my head.
If you do have a lot to talk about could go two hours split it in two. Know of one show that records every other week doing two shows in one go.

I guess it depends on what kind of podcast this views itself as. I'm a voracious podcast listener (it helps to pass the time at work), and my subscriptions fall into two broad categories. The 30 minute podcasts generally act as a summary of several topics with a couple of side points thrown in and enough discussion to get about an inch deep into the issue. The hour long podcasts go more in depth into a few topics. Since I didn't create the podcast and I'm just hanging out at the bar, I don't know which one it's conceived as. But it seems more comfortable as a discussion podcast focusing on just a few topics.
That said, and with no slight intended toward magus113, I do think it would be helpful for the host to keep an eye on the clock so that we don't spend too long on any segment. I think that each person's individual cocktail chatter story could probably have been disposed of in 5-8 minutes, for example.

Yeah, the good thing about me recording and also editing is that I can keep track of the individual recording time and if anything needs to get cut out I would know what can go or not. I'll be sure to keep that in mind this time around though.

I don't think it should be over an hour, or under 30 minutes.
And I still haven't found my mic.

30 minutes seems pretty sure. I feel like an hour is the sweet spot for a podcast. Unless you have a crew (like 1Up Yours and Giant Bomb) that can carry a really long one.
