My favorite Flair match is the 89 Steamboat match for the title when Flaair won it back. That match was great for SO many reasons
1) Technically superior matches
2) Steamboat... gotta love Steamboat... he's been in so many legendary matches. One of the greatest in ring performers ever.
3) The Build Up - The NWA was really the last vastion of real pro wrestling at that point.
4) Booking - They had a pannel of judges just in case the match went to a time limit, AND THEN HAD A CLEAN 1,2,3 FINISH. Talk about swerving the fans. Everyone there watching thought that it would be decided by the judges.
5) Terry Funk - His assault of Flair at the end was simply classic, and the Funk showed why he is my #2 legend by having a spectacular series of matches with Flair at his advanced age (He was the NWA World Champ when Flair was still a zit faced kid).
BTW, I hold Funk in such high regard because of his longevity and match type variety. He worked an NWA technocal stle as Champ in the 70's, moved to Southern Style in the 80's, and then moveed on to pioneering the Death Match and Garbage wrestling with Atsushi Onita in the 90's. Plus, he could still hit a sweet moonsault at the age of 55... you HAVE to respect that.
