PSP go
I don't know if people here have read up on it, but its Sony's new handheld.
Honestly, this system sounds like its going to fail. I just can't imagine it selling a lot without being able to use the UMDs from the old PSP. Being 100% digital, and small, and powerful sounds nice.. but it also sounds like its going to be competing with older PSPs, and will probably ultimately fail. It seems like Sony's making a BIG gamble on this one.

Re: PSP go
I agree. They're trying to make this easier for the consumer but with a higher price tag and no ability for people who have older PSP models to get their UMDs on the new console? You've got a problem. Nice try Sony.
Did they also just do this for the size of the handheld though? Because I have the old PSP-1000 and I personally didn't think it was that bad.

To me the first PSP was perfectly fine. The PSP slim wasn't even nessicary in my book. But yeah, I think they're doing it mainly for size... so that's its like a second entertainment cell phone.. or a replacement to some MP3 players..

For a second MP3 or entertainment cell phone thing, it's still a pretty hefty price tag when you can get an iPhone with a new contract or just a regular iPod classic/touch for less.

Except the fact you don't need to pay a monthly fee on your Sony-handheld.

Not exactly the case with an iPod though. The PSP can't really double as a cell phone either, unless you're on WiFi for Skype. So technically the iPhone being a part of it shouldn't really happen.

Re: PSP go
How the hell can you be fine with the PSP-1000? Hahaha. You must have deep pockets. Even a DS lite is uncomfortable for me. The iPhone is perfect, and that's why I always carry it.
My impressions of it at PAX were great. JUST as big as the iPhone, and then it flips out. The buttons are super comfy, and the screen is great. I was totally sold on one.
Then I heard the news that they aren't supporting old UMDs. I don't know why I expected that, because Sony is one let down after another. But without backwards compatibility, the price isn't justified at all to me. I would spend around $150 for it, at most, especially because the DS seems to survive at that price.

Re: PSP go
The PSP go might suprise people in the long run, but I think its ahead of its time. Not everybody has Wi-fi connections at their house, nor does everyone have a computer to link up their PSP to and download off of. That alone kills a lot of appeal... plus it doesn't have backward compatibility and isn't a big technical improvement on the gaming side vs the old psp, which hurts its appeal with its own base.
Heck, you could even say that games not being sold directly for it through stores would be a nightmare for marketing too.. Sony's going to have to set up some type of booth in stores for people to download content off of in the long run, to get it universal appeal. Maybe that could be the solution for the UMDs too... Have games cost $10 for the PSP go if you trade in the UMD in a store for the USB download.
I don't know though, it seems like a strecth.

Re: PSP go
I don't care much about it. I think it's worth the try, but I don't care if it's a big succes or not.

Re: PSP go
I do tend to have deep pockets, and the PSP-1000 is the sturdiest for me. I think build quality hasn't been the greatest since then. Plus it's the original! I dunno. I pride myself in that for the very few releases that made the purchase worthwhile.
For example:
GTAs
Valkyrie Profile Remake
FF1 and 2 Anniversary
Persona
Dissidia
Crisis Core,
etc.
Plus PSX games on the go? Hell yes!
