Superman confirmed to be a reboot.

Warner Bros. Confirms Superman Reboot
Source: Steelsheen
August 22, 2008
Just a few days after this article was posted, Warner Bros. Pictures Group President Jeff Robinov has told The Wall Street Journal that the studio is going to be reintroducing Superman. We assume this will be similar to how Louis Leterrier's The Incredible Hulk was a reboot of Ang Lee's Hulk. Here is what the article says:
Warner Bros. also put on hold plans for another movie starring multiple superheroes -- known as "Batman vs. Superman" -- after the $215 million "Superman Returns," which had disappointing box-office returns, didn't please executives. "'Superman' didn't quite work as a film in the way that we wanted it to," says Mr. Robinov. "It didn't position the character the way he needed to be positioned." "Had 'Superman' worked in 2006, we would have had a movie for Christmas of this year or 2009," he adds. "But now the plan is just to reintroduce Superman without regard to a Batman and Superman movie at all."
The article also talks about Warner Bros. adapting other DC properties over the new few years. "By 2011, Mr. Robinov plans for DC Comics to supply the material for up to two of the six to eight tent-pole films he hopes Warner Bros. will have in the pipeline by then," it says. Those projects will likely be about single characters at first, and will be darker much like The Dark Knight:
With "Batman vs. Superman" and "Justice League" stalled, Warner Bros. has quietly adopted Marvel's model of releasing a single film for each character, and then using those movies and their sequels to build up to a multicharacter film. "Along those lines, we have been developing every DC character that we own," Mr. Robinov says.
Like the recent Batman sequel -- which has become the highest-grossing film of the year thus far -- Mr. Robinov wants his next pack of superhero movies to be bathed in the same brooding tone as "The Dark Knight." Creatively, he sees exploring the evil side to characters as the key to unlocking some of Warner Bros.' DC properties. "We're going to try to go dark to the extent that the characters allow it," he says. That goes for the company's Superman franchise as well.
The studio is set to announce its plans for future DC movies in the next month. For now, though, it is focused on releasing four comic-book films in the next three years, including a third Batman film, a new film reintroducing Superman, and two movies focusing on other DC Comics characters. Movies featuring Green Lantern, Flash, Green Arrow, and Wonder Woman are all in active development.
We'll let you know as soon as the studio has announced its plans for future DC movies.

As a huge supes fan I have mixed feelings on this, for one I dont want yet another origin story, so I hope they go the hulk route and have some random flashbacks and he is already stabilished, everyone knows his origin kind of thing. This is also likely to mean the Williams theme will be gone, sacrilegious but I'll live.
The whole "Dark" thing bothers me the most, I think he could work as a ray of hope in a dark world, nothing further than that.
PS: please god, dont let them fuck the suit up (ie black suit with blades kind of thing...)

Re: Superman confirmed to be a reboot.
What the fuck, please don't turn everything dark. Batman should be the DARKEST film based on principal alone.
How about you DON'T cast Kevin Spacey as Lex Luthor next time (even though I loved his character, hahaha.)

Re: Superman confirmed to be a reboot.
As long as Superman actually fights someone (or at least throws a punch) and Lex's master plan doesn't involve real estate, I'll be content.

Re: Superman confirmed to be a reboot.
Im hoping that lex (if at all in the movie) is nothing more than a supporting character actually, perhaps even taking credit at the end for ending whatever threat, and then announcing his campaing for president of the US or something.

Re: Superman confirmed to be a reboot.
Superman shouldn't be dark. Thats the fun of Superman and Batman. They are the opposite of two coins. The way a Superman vs Batman film would work is if they are opposites, but you could see both sides.
As for Lex, they should base him on his "Man of Steel" one shot, where much of his hate for Superman is explained, and even intimates a relationship between himslef and Bruce Wayne.

Michael Rosenbaum who played Lex on Smallville should play Lex in the new movie.

The first three seasons were good. And all but one episode of season five was good. Downhill since then.

Re: Superman confirmed to be a reboot.
1) Zen the icon probably has to go. I am opening it at work and it looks like at some gay porn website.
2)A darker Superman could work, but really I wouldn't want it. I also don't want some goofy happy go lucky Superman.
I understand The Dark Knight broke all types of records, but in all honesty Batman is one of the most popular, if not, the most popular comic book character and The Joker is probably the most well known villain. The tone was just icing on the cake.
Spiderman series and Iron Man both did well without becoming dark so maybe find a tone that suits the character.
And for heaven's sake... anyone but Lex.
Superman has a great collection of rogue's. Not just Lex.
Brainiac, Darkseid, Doomsday, Livewire, Parasite, Bizarro, Metallo, Intergang.

Re: Superman confirmed to be a reboot.
They could make the environment for Superman darker, but don't make Supes himself darker. As mentioned above, he should be the ray of light when hope is lessened.
Superman vs Batman could've worked well this time because of how well the Dark Knight did. Since Batman *SPOILERS...though you should have seen Dark Knight by now* went off into the night at the end of the movie basically, they could've had him go to another city, and then tie in Superman. At the end of that, have Batman return to Gotham to see how bad it became after the Bat left and people wishing he hadn't left.
I'm no writer so its just an idea that could have panned out if they didn't chop Bat vs Supe

Re: Superman confirmed to be a reboot.
Man...the new Superman movie was terrrrible. It was like 7 hours long and it was boring as hell. And it was like an allegory for Christianity.
They need a reboot.

Re: Superman confirmed to be a reboot.
Urrg...too many superhero movies now.
I am against the justice league idea because I honestly don't think the Batman they've created in this new series can exist in the same world as all of that weird magic stuff that give the other heroes their powers.
If they do Justice League, Batman should be left out of it.

The problem isn't too many superhero movies (I personally think there are a ton of characters they can tap into). the problem is the quality ratio there are a LOT more stinkers than there are genuine winners. I also think people should stop looking at them like superhero movies and make movies that have superheroes in them. It is why The Dark Knight works so well. It is a movie first that happens to star a man who dresses up as a bat.
And I don't think a Justice League movie without Batman would be fun, people are most familar with him and Superman and I think those two would be needed to give the movie some weight and momentum.
