Why WoW Lost Me
I stopped playing WoW a while back for various reasons, but I have always been open to coming back again. What I always felt was missing was not that there were enough races... but that they had not added any more classes
Lets face it, races add little difference gameplay, and add almost none once you get to high levels. But classes are what make a game FUN. I loved my Hunter and even feel as if I have a connection to him, but after a while its just more of the same and I'd move on to Paladin for a change up or Warlock or Mage. But they never really "sang" to me so I'd always come back to my Hunter... until I eventually became bored and stopped playing, but remained open if they aded some new classes.
Then the first expansions came with two new RACES. Yawn. I don't need a new skin, I need new gameplay, and NO playing as a good shaman doesn't count.
Now the second expansion is coming... and its adding a new class.... ONLY FOR HIGH LEVEL CHARACTERS. That is weak. The fun of trying out a new class is in the journey your character takes from welp to complete badass and master of their abilities. Adding a high level class is a cop-out and makes me more angry than satisfied with Blizzards efforts. To me it also shows that they are far too comfortable with treading water (not that they aren't successful doing so) when it coms to membership rather than trying to bring in new players by offering a brand new global experience.
GIVE ME MY NECROMANCER, GODDAMMIT!!! OR AN ENGINEERING CLASS??? How cool would it be to have a steampunk class with wicked iron technology as their weapons!

Re: Why WoW Lost Me
See, the Engineering class is a great idea. But it actually could lead to other really cool ideas like a profession overhaul. Wouldn't it be cool if you could do an apprenticeship to a single class once you reached a certain level? Like, you could train under a Mage and learn some basic mage spells. You would pair yourself to a specific player and group with them and the more you saw them do certain spells the more chance you would have of learning them? And then vice versa, they could apprentice somebody else, maybe a hunter? And they learn basic stuff like tracking or whatever.
It would add a second dimension to the game that I think would be really fun. But obviously cause balance issues (because there aren't any already >_>).

Re: Why WoW Lost Me
I quit because the only thing I really liked (raiding) became such a drag. At one point I thought "bah, I have to raid again tonight." The guild had started to suck. Many good players had left and some noobs had joined. We were wiping on bosses that we had downed months ago...
Luckily it was right before The Burning Crusade. So I quit. I only came back one, for the free TBC trial. TBC brought nothing new in my opinion, so I never touched the game again.

Re: Why WoW Lost Me
I left a lot of console stuff behind, and it was just taking way too long to get anywhere because I wasn't raiding.
I'm taking my much needed sabbatical from it.

I'm not a fan of the gameplay at all. I really don't like western-style RPGs.
It's why I vastly preferred Mass Effect to KOTOR, too.

Re: Why WoW Lost Me
I thought I was bored of WoW.
Then I discovered Druids...
...
Then I got bored of WoW again. But not before my Druid became the first character of mine to ever get into end-game raiding (by which I mean I ran Kara 3 times)... And I've owned the game since it came out...
As it stands now, World of Warcraft is what it is... I don't think there's anything they could add in an expansion that would offer some radically new and different experience...
The next expansion will come out and it will offer a few different ways to do the same things, and a few new areas in which to do those same things.
And, of course, I'll buy it simply because I physically require a copy of the inevitable collector's edition to go with my other two...
IMO, the best thing about WoW is the world itself... And once that gets old, it gets old...

And I'm the same type of player. The exploration is the best part, and once you've seen everything the game becomes markedly less interesting.

Re: Why WoW Lost Me
What do you guys think of this idea:
Create new classes, but classes that are more 'dedicated' to a certain gameplay and appearance. This is why I like the engineer class. Here are my ideas:
IRON MONGER CLASS - Only Dwarves, Gnomes and Orcs
Profession - Only engineering, but the iron Monger progresses in the profession 35% faster than all others.
Ranged - Guns only, introduce pistols with this class with ability to dual wield
Melee - One Handed Hammers, no dial wield, shield bearing
Armor - Start with mail, advance to plate
Buffs - Based on steampunk technology. A device that is set, not unlike a totem.
Magno Deflector - Area effect that reduces the chance that all friendlies in the area will be hit by ranged attacks by 20 - 50% progression (no damage reduction).
Magno Lock - Area effect that slows enemies in mail or plate by 30 - 60% progressions
Magno Crush - Area effect that DOT's enemies in mail or plate progression. Not sure what the progression would be.
Special Attacks/Abilities - All specials are separate cool down from normal attacks
Corrosion Shot - Shoots an acidic ball that causes minor DOT but great DOT to armor
Dual Wield Pistols - Pistols do approximately half the damage of rifles and are 15 - 25% less accurate, but a fast rate of fire increasing potential DOT but also exhausting twice as much ammunition.
Twin Cannon - Fire both pistols at once, causing greater damage (1.5x per pistol)
Twelve Chambers of Fury - Cone area effect attack. Twelve successive, fast shots, alternating targets. More targets, fewer shots hit each one. Fewer targets, more shots hit each enemy. Damage based on avatar level and eqipment. Each shot's chance to hit reduce by an additional 5-7%
Thats what I have for right now, and I haven't even gotten into traps and mortars yet. Anyone else have any ideas?

Re: Why WoW Lost Me
Its harder for me to get bored of WoW since I play with my girl.
I leveled Palaidn and she leveled Warlock together not knowing what to expect really, got them to 70 and kinda started liking PVP.. Then we leveled hunters which are now level 69 twinks (have almost full gladiator stuff)... Now we're kindsa burnt on all the PVP and leveling a Resto shaman and PRotection warrior on alliance side to do more exploration. lol
Honestly at this point I can't see the end. Though we do avoid raiding (heroics ok.. raiding bad). And we play at a slow pace where we're not wasting every night online.
Strangler.. you probably just played it too much and burnt yourself out on it. Or.. as I've noticed... after leveling hunter every other class seems like very hard work. Hunter is just fun and easy like that. lol

My schedule also only allows me to play casually, as well, so you probably have a point. My attraction to the Hunter class was deeper than that, though. I tried rolling other hunters, but it never felt right unless it was a dwarf and I had a wolf or bear. I imagined Grimaldi (my Hunter) huddling by a camp fire in the hills above Iron Forge, feeding his pet bear Medici (Med-e-chee) scraps of meat from his iron skillet. At heart, Grim was a loner, rejecting the expected dwarven life of mining and blacksmithing. He cared not for riches, only simplicity, honor and justice.
As you can tell I had quite a relationship with my avatar. I would literally even protect my bear over a teammate, because I felt so attached. After all, Medici kept me alive whenh no one else was alive, why wouldn't protect my best friend and partner?
Plus, guns are just plain cool with dwarves.
No other class offered me that level of immersion and detail. I think that is why I was so drawn to it.
...
ANYWAY, what do you guys think of my preliminary class build. Does it sound interesting? I had another idea that certain engineering related special attacks would need both minimum avatar level AND engineering level to learn, but they would be engineering attacks that require no supplies (bombs, dynamite, robot attack chicken, etc.)

Re: Why WoW Lost Me
I was always hoping for a woodworker profession. I would have liked going through forests to find nice pieces of wood and make bows and spears out of them.
But for a class... hm. How about a melee magic class? Plate armor so he can tank. Uses staffs, rods etc. to inflict magic damage (fire, frost, shadow, arcane). Strong melee attack, weak ranged.
Or is that what they're kind of trying with the Death Knight?
Prof, I liked your first idea for a class better (the engineer).

The Iron Monger is the engineering class. I can't call it engineering because its the name of the profession. But the Iron Monger's abilities are based on technology and invention.

Re: Why WoW Lost Me
If I could make up a class, it'd be another tanking/DPS class. Kind of like monk in FFXI just a little more complicated than that. Highly skilled in fist weapons and unarmed combat. And their abilities should be strongly based in momentum. They can use leather and cloth gear only.
When I say being based in momentum, I mean the more this class attacks one target (or a string of targets), the more efficient they get at damaging it. ANd the more this class is attacked by one target (or a string of targets) the more efficient it gets at avoiding damage.
The two specs I could think of would be 'Overpower' and 'Counter Master'.
~Overpower spec would lean towards improving the classes offensive stats. It would also improve the classes ability to gain efficiency over time attacking a target. An exclusive late tree ability could be something "Fists of Fury". An aura like ability that only works on the class itself. With each sucsessful attack on any given target, you gain 5 Expertise and 5 haste rating for 10 seconds. Ability stacks an unlimited amount of times until canceled by going 10 seconds without a hit.
~Counter Master.. as it says, would be the master of countering attacks with its own. It would have abilities to increase threat from countering, and oddly only bufffing armor and Hit points. (Talented correctly, they should be able to get their leather gear's armor Value up to somewhere between Mail and Plate, and their hit point value higher than any class is capible of). Their big exclusive ability could be Defensive tactitian... An ability where every time you are hit with a physical attack, you gain +5 Expertise, +2% Dodge chance, and +2% Counter chance for 10 seconds. Also no limit to amount of times stacked.
If a fight carries on too long, both specs would be gods. They'd have the ability to raise the bar to any challenge if someone is willing to keep them alive for it. The class naturally will get little abilities that slowly escalate offensive and defensive abilities, you'd just eed to spec for something as extreme as the above.
The downsides of the class, is they'd be much like warrior, in getting nothing special in terms of travel forms or perks that make them invunerable or undetectable. They'd also have a weakness when it comes to magic, theyr counters only work when the fight is physical. Though I'd have to give the tanking spec some sort of silence so they have a chance t build threat.
