The Problem With Sequels
Another fun-filled morning of work has left me bored and thinking about sequels while watching Die Hard.
And I realize the two biggest pitfalls with most sequels
1)Change in tone from the original.
2)Trying to remake the original.
Now, I'm sure this won't be the way with all sequels but look at most of the sequels people have issues with and I'm sure one of those two results will come up.
Die Hard 2 was Die Hard in an airport. Temple of Doom became rather dark and gloomy and enclosed. Batman Returns (even though I prefer it) was darker than the original which resulted in Forever and the other one. The Matrix Reloaded tried to be as important as the original and fell flat on its face.
Even in video games, Prince of Persia 2 went darker and that didn't work out as well. Super Mario Bros 2 and Zelda 2 changed the core gameplay. While argubably good games in their own regards had very little influence on the rest of the franchise.
Just something thought about while here.

Re: The Problem With Sequels
Mario Bros 2 originally wasn't even a Mario game. And it still isn't in Japan.

Re: The Problem With Sequels
Spiderman 2 was much better than Spiderman, and X-Men 2 was much better than X-Men. Also, in my opinion The Empire Strikes Back was THE BEST movie in the Star Wars trilogy. Also, I thought that The Two Towers was the best of Jackson's three films.
For the most part, sequels never are as good as the original. Especially if the sequel is totally unnecessary as is often the case.

Re: The Problem With Sequels
Sequels can be fine, take a look at Home Alone 2. It cranked the shit up to 11 and it's definetly my favorite one.
And on the gaming side of things Gears of War 2 looks like it's gonna wipe the floor with Gears 1

The Drawing of the Three was a better book than The Gunslinger.
Sort of.

Oh shit! Also (idk how I could forget this) Spiderman 3 was waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better than the other two. James Franco really shined there.

Toy Story 2 was better than Toy Story 1.

I'm sure you said this just to see my bad side, but I won't take the bait.

I've really gotta watch the Toy Story movies again, it's been way to long.

There's no bait there, just straight up truth. Honestly, I feel 3 is way better.

Re: The Problem With Sequels
Spiderman 3 sucked ass. They totally shafted the Venom story. And emo spidey...wtf. The only way you could have saved that crapfest is if you got Kirsten Dunce naked.

Re: The Problem With Sequels
Spiderman 3 was great for 2 reasons:
1) James Franco
2) James Franco

So you swing both ways or you react to Franco the way I react to her?
