Default Gran Turismo 5 Prologue glad.gif

I bought this today. I haven't gotten very far into the game, only have two cars. Its pretty fun. I'm not a big racing game fan, but I felt like something different before I start wasting my free time on Grand Theft Auto.

The in-cockpit view does a lot for the immersion and I think helps me to drive better. In most racing games, I feel like I'm floating along in the first-person view, but here, it really helps me feel like I'm actually driving a car.

Does anyone here play? I don't think I'll be going online anytime soon, since I'm slowly making my way through the C class races right now, but I might check that part of the game out later.

Gran Turismo games give me headaches... Far too detailed and I suppose realistic... But I mostly find the learning curve to be way too steep and the racing somewhat boring...

Sega GT and Forza Motorsport 2 are two similar-yet-dumbed-down games I enjoyed much more...

I'm still holding out for a new true (as in not L.A. Rush) sequel to the Rush series... *crosses fingers*

I've played Forza 2 as well, and I found it to be on a similar level to Gran Turismo. Both have a lot of options for adjusting the level of realism and difficulty to a comfortable point, which I really appreciate. It helps me to ease into a more true-to-life driving experience without being overwhelmed with too much, too fast.

Really? To be honest I only played GT3: A-Spec or whatever it's full title was...
Either it didn't have a realism/difficulty adjustment system, or I just didn't see it, or I just totally sucked (probably #3).

Alls I know is I nearly broke a controller over it, which is something I hadn't done since I was like 8 years old...
In other news: Dual Shock 2's are pretty durable to withstand me swinging it around in a circle by it's cord and slamming it into the brick fireplace...

I don't know about the adjustment options in the PS2 iterations. I skipped 3 and only played a little of 4. If you didn't notice any options, I don't doubt they weren't available. But GT5 Prologue seems to have all the driving aids that I remember from Forza 2 (driving lines, stability control, etc., etc.).

What a ripoff the prologue is for $40. I'm totally happy with the Japanese demo I downloaded. But then again.. when IS GT5 actually coming out?

Late 2009, early 2010, I think. Thirty dollars would have been a better price-point (and a few bucks than that for a direct download from the PS Store). With that said, for a more casual player like myself, there's plenty to keep me interested for the amount of time I plan to spend. Seventyish cars to purchase, six tracks; no, that doesn't stack with the huge amounts of content they cram into the final products (I think its up to 900 cars for GT5), but its still a good amount for me to play with when taken on its own. Remove the "GT" title, and I think a lot of the expectations lower. Its still on the low side, but I payed full price for MotorStorm, which had a similar low number of tracks. That was too much too, but it didn't hurt my actual fun in the game much.

If they can add a dozen or so new cars and maybe two new tracks through DLC, all the better, so long as its properly priced.

One thing I usually think about when I hear that the Prologue is a ripoff is the obverse of that statement; given how much is stuffed into the full game, sixty dollars is a great deal if you're into the series. And I think the price is as much about securing a chance to have a peek at the game a year before it ships as much as anything else.

I was talking with a friend who won't buy Prologue because he doesn't want to encourage other developers to take this "charge for a demo" route, but I have to wonder how many would actually be able to pull it off. Smash Bros. could release a light version, I suppose, given all the extras crammed into the game. Metal Gear already does have its director's cuts that come out later. Halo 3 made you buy Crackdown.

I may be the gaming judas in this respect, but I don't really see anything wrong with it. Releasing demos for free definately makes sense, but when you release a demo thats got over 5 hrs gameplay you can't just give them out. Prologue on its own stands a better game than say, well MOST racers on the market. Now $40 does seem a bit steep, but when you have a demo that might as well be a lower class full game, have online playability and such, that ceases to be a "demo" in the traditional sense. Furthermore they DID release a GT5 demo for free that needed to be downloaded, THAT was a true demo, now when you have 55 or so more cars than before and 5 more tracks, well, their going to make you pay for it. If you think its a ripoff, than don't buy it.

Fuck. Well the deal was still on, but I was bonehead-ish and drove out there in furious anticipation. After arriving I learned that they were fresh out of GT5. I asked if they would honour it across the street at Future Shop and they said definitely. However, I walked over to Future Shop and they didn't have any either. What the hell! The rest of the stores in the mall either DIDN'T pricematch (stupid fucking EBGames and HMV), didn't have DS3, or didn't have GT5, or both.

But the Sony Store said they would honour the deal if they got stock soon. They're good guys.

If true, that is/was a great deal. Although GT5 is not my cup of tea when it comes to racers. I don't prefer the sim-style racers, I go more for the arcadey Need for Speed Carbon/Burnout Paradise kind of games.
