One reason: 3 villians. Name a comic book movie that was good when it concentrated on more than one villain. X2 doesn't count because Magneto isn't really a villain in it, and the original Batman begins kept the main villain hidden until the very end. In fact, it seems to be a general rule that more villains = worse movie. Batman and Robin anyone?
Also, of all the movies to have multiple villains, why pick the one with THE JOKER? If there is any villain that can carry a film by themselves, its The Joker.
The only thing that keeps me from losing hope is the talent involved, namely Christpoher Nolan, Cilian Murphy, and Heath Ledger who I think will blow people away as The Joker.
Do you mean The Dark Knight worries you? Or is Begins still troubling you as it does me? Begins had three villains: Ra's Al Ghul, Scarecrow, and Carmine Falcone.
Not really up to date in Dark Knight news, but there's the Joker, and will introduce Harvey Dent before he becomes Two-Face. Scarecrow back too? Seems like less of a mess to me than Begins was. Well, as far as villain numbers are concerned at least.
Editor's Note: This article is about the sequel to Batman Begins, The Dark Knight
I didn't know Cillian was coming back to reprise the role of Scarecrow. I thought that villain was finished. I guess it makes sense though if the Joker busts everyone out of the Arkham asylum.
I wouldn't worry about the multiple villains issue. Batman Begins had multiple villains (Falcone, the Scarecrow, the Asian League of Shadows leader Ra's Al Ghul) and was still an excellent movie.
I don't really consider Batman Begins to be a multiple villain movie
1) Falcone was a minor character meant to introduce Batmen to Gotham.
2) Rha's Al Ghul was not revealed until the very end.
3) Scarecrow was really the main villian for the majority of the film, and once Ghul was introduced, they pretty much took him out of the main narrative by exposing him to his own chemicals.
I guess the problems come when they split focus on the villains, like they did in Spiderman3 and the later Batman films.

Re: The Dark Knight Worries Me
Batman is my speciality
Which can be considered both sad and helpful but eh.
Anyhow from what I gathered this movie will have multiple villians in the way that Begins had multiple villians.
So much that the main plot shall deal with Batman vs Joker but being that Joker is well to put it mildly insane. He does not have a concept of right and wrong so his business effects both Gotham and mobsters.
So if you will Batman vs Joker
Batman vs mobs (which looks to be led by Scarecrow)
Mob against Joker
And well Harvey Dent will be introduced in the movie or whatever. Won't go intmo more.
So far not worried about the movie because from what I heard/seen they seem to be on the ball.
But yes sI agree multiple villians has never really been a good thing for a movie.

Villains that would not work in this new Batman series:
Catwoman
Poison Ivy
Mr. Freeze
The Riddler wouldn't work unless they toned down the flamboyant costume and made him a little more scary and sadistic.

Also, Robin should never be introduced.
Sidekicks are lame anyways.
Why wouldn't Catwoman work?
If anything I think she is ideally suited.
No special powers. No mental illnesses. She is a simple cat burglar.
Poison Ivy and Mr. Freeze I can see your point, but on the same hand the taint from Batman and Robin will ruin it.
And Riddler, well.. you know what.
Best representation of Mr. Freeze that I believe would work well in Begins universe.
I actually think Mr. Freeze would work great, of they took notes from the characterization in the cartoon series. The Mr. Freeze episode is one of my all time favorites and he is a great character if you treat him right.

Re: The Dark Knight Worries Me
Well it's really the only version of Mr. Freeze that counts.
Every where else he is a lame criminal who has an ice gun.
Though, this brings up a point. And one of the few agree with Danny on.. think it's Danny anyhow.
Is once you created this world and there may or may not be issue with fitting regular characters in this world.. it starts to become weird.
Like the Batman universe has it's Robins and Catwoman and Poison Ivy so naturally they should be able to fit into the Begins universe because by definition they are a core of the universe.
