Re: My parents are divorcing.
Well, as I've staed before, over MSN, and LJ, I've recently been through this.
Although every situation differs.
It depends on the factors defining it (as we've been over).
The best way to go about it (as i've found, as having been through it less than a month ago) is to keep your head up. Dont think the worst.
Its possible ( not to be a downer) that the worst might happen 100% for sure, yes. But in the meantime, until the papers are filed, be happy. Be yourself. Take it as a seperation. It's never an easy thing to deal with, and its always easier to confide in peoplke who have gone through the same thing. To share stories and whatnot.
Just dont spiral into bad habits, and just keep kicking jokes and happyness around, as bad and cliche as it sounds.
Keep the face happy and busy, and the mind follows.

Re: My parents are divorcing.
I think people who have been in that situation would be best to speak to. Do you have any friends in the same/similar situation?
Just know that they both love you (I know it's cliche but it's very true).

Re: My parents are divorcing.
My parents split up when I was in the 8th grade. My mom found out my dad had been having an affair for the past 3 years with a nurse that my mom worked with. Needless to say that was not a fun time. I remember visiting my dad's apartment every other weekend and how my mom cried a lot.

Re: My parents are divorcing.
my parents "split up" but were kind of reconciling and my dad KILLED my mom... so you know... divorce is sometimes a VERY good thing.
but yea, i'm not saying that's gonna happen... I know lots of people whose parents are quite happily divorced and actually get along BETTER because of it.
chin up.

Re: My parents are divorcing.
My parents split up a while back. I mean, they were never particularly overt with their hostility but I guess I just sort of saw it coming.
I had convinced myself that it was for the best and honestly just wasn't that worried about it. I went on feeling fine until a girl from Drama asked me out and started talking to me about it and I got all choked up. Which was a total shock to me because I didn't know how bothered by it I had really been until I talked it over with somebody who cared. And then I guess I really did feel okay about it; it just seemed natural.
Anyway, I won't say I hope they stay together. But I will say that whatever happens - I genuinely hope you can find a way to be happy with it.

Re: My parents are divorcing.
That seems random and bizarre to me. But I guess I don't really know anything about your parents. If you need anything like game playing time or man hugs, just let me know.

Dylan, why are you making everything so gay today?

Re: My parents are divorcing.
I don't know what it's like to deal with your own parents splitting up (mine were never even married), but you're obviously upset about this, Dyne. So I hope you feel better about everything in time.

Re: My parents are divorcing.
That sucks, which is about as poetic as I get. I can't say I can offer much sympathy as I've never been through something like that, but my thoughts are with you and your family.
Just one thing: It's not your fault. You're probably too old for this to affect you but a lot of children of divorce blame themselves, when in reality it is most often the children that keep the family together for as long as it does. Once again, you probably are too old for that kind of thinking, but I just wanted to make sure.

I've read this 3 times, and I'm still not sure what you're saying here. (or maybe I do, and I'm pretending not to understand because it sounds horrible)
But Dyne, I can't say I've been in that spot before, but I know what it's like to have parents that don't get along, and seperate. If they physically fight (like my parents would) it is for the better that they separate. Just take care of yourself, and let your parents work it out themselves.

Re: My parents are divorcing.
Thank you so much for the thoughts everyone.
And yeah, it's going relatively smoothly; it could be way worse. My dad just signed the lease on his new apartment yesterday.

So sorry Phil.
Was this something you saw coming or did they just drop a heartbreaking surprise on you and your brother one day?

Re: My parents are divorcing.
I've been through some family problems myself...my advice would just be to support everyone in your family with your love, and to keep doing your own thing. School, work, whatever that is. Keep up with it, keep yourself busy.
