The Da Vinci Code
Don't know if anyone here has been following the premiere of this movie which opens tomorrow (work will be hell tomorrow). Directed by Ron Howard and starring Tom Hanks you'd expect something glorious. As of now though, it's absolutely tanking on Rotten Tomatoes. I was surprised. I'll still see if of course and even if it turns out to be bad, I still have X-Men 3 to look forward to the week after!
BTW, is anyone else as disappointed with the appearance of the character Juggernaut as me? Juggernaut is supposed to be huge! They have an average size (albeit strong) man playing him. So weak. They would've been better off using some computer tricks to make him huge like Hulk.

Oh well.
Yeah, I have the same feelings about Juggarnaut. Honestly though, most of the X-Men aren't much like their comicbook counterparts. Cyclops was on the money though. Where is my 5'3" gruff and stout Wolverine?

Re: The Da Vinci Code
Seems like every movie has been tanking on Rottentomatoes as of late...
It's the hip thing to do...
One thing I find funny is that many reviews seem to hold it against the film that it's not factual... Did it ever claim to be? Did the book/author ever even claim it to be (havn't read or even really payed any attention to it)?
Last I heard, the book was supposed to be fiction (albeit fiction that some easily confused people take too seriously)... As is the movie...
And fiction tends to be on the fictitious side...

I'm a bit mad about Colossus not being Russian.
Back on topic though, I will probably end up seeing this film...but I would prefer to read the book first.

Re: The Da Vinci Code
Watched it yesterday. It was pretty good, but like all book-movie conversions, didn't have the same feeling the book had.
The best thing about the movie is seeing all the places in the book.
And Audrey Tatou. Her acting wasn't that good, but the French-accented English makes up for everything. It's worth watching again just for her

Re: The Da Vinci Code
Saw it last night as well. I liked it, but I never did read the book.
...it was kinda predictable. I literally guessed the ending.

Re: The Da Vinci Code
I can't decide if I want to go see crap that got crap reviews or crap that got semi-crap reviews.
That's The Da Vinci Code vs. MI3, by the way.
Frankly, movies have kind of sucked lately.
I watched the remake of the Producers last night though, that's funny shnit.
"even though we are sitting down, we are giving you a standing ovation"
i laughed tears.

Re: The Da Vinci Code
How does the remake compare to the original movie?

Re: The Da Vinci Code
Pretty similar, almost identical. It'll all come down to actor preference. Either you like the old cast better or you like the new cast. Or you appreciate the original and the new one for what they offer. Will Ferrell is hilarious though.

i don't remember if it was in the beginning or end of the book but it states that all places, groups, rituals, and some other stuff is based on fact...the only thing in all of da vinci's books that's actually fiction is the story and the characters.
as for the movie at hand, i will be going to see it on the 28th (sunday) and i'll be seeing X3 on the 26th...can't wait

Yes, based on a true story just like Domino (which is the first movie that came to mind as I tried to think of something based on fact which was really mostly fiction). And I think that was actually more accurate...

Re: The Da Vinci Code
Well if you strip all movies of their story and characters, then you have a lot of movies "based on facts." We could make a large list of movies that follow the laws of physics or take place in real locations.
The part that rocks is we don't really know how factual the bible actually is. Certainly a book to consider not taking literaly.
