Haha, there was no way Sony could pass that new controller feature under the radar without being called out.

Spank'd!

With what Sony did, I wonder if Nintendo will go back to its "uber-secret mode wait until the last minute to unveil the 'secret'" again

Wouldn't it be funny if Nintendo suddenly said "hahah, that was our fake secret controller, that idea was destined for failure" and then they go back to copying the dual shock controller.

I wonder if Sony would follow Nintendo?

Most likely. If anything what Sony have done with their controller shows that they are concerned with Nintendo being in this generation gaming and they will try anything to stop them....this is where they may lose out. They shoulda stuck with the original banana controller.

now just to clear this up a bit for me.... PS3's controller is just a tilt sensor, not a actual pointing device like nintendos right? i keep thinking that its just a tilt sensor, but everyone blowing up over copying makes me unsure...

Ok, I new these parallels would be made, but they are absolutely ridiculous. A motion sensor in a standard controller does not copy the Wii remote, not by a ****ing long shot. It doesn't even copy Nintendo in any facet, because motion sensors have been around for years, and really I can't understand why Microsoft didn't use a similar design with their controller (they probably will now).

Look guys, the Wii remote provides fully 3D control. It is something way beyond a motion sensor. The PS3 and Wii experiences are still going to be incredibly different.

Yes, but will the general consumer get that?

We know that tilt sensors are limited, but the way Sony is talking, they clearly want to compete with Nintendo.

You say it as if they cant.
And of course they want to compete. It's a competative market.

People need to stop praying to the Wii gods and get over the fact its not as big as it seems.

The Wii controller is a full out sensor. The PS3 controller is a little tiny tilt sensor. Much different.

Directly comparing the two is like comparing a tilt-a-whirl and a ferris wheel; One spins and gyrates and makes whirring noises and has flashy lights to catch kids eyes, the other just has chairs that can be rocked back and forth.

Yeah but if 1 circus invents the tilt-a-whirl which is an amazing experience and suddenly the other circus builds a ferris wheel................. telling costumers that their ferris wheel at least doesn't make you sick.....

Just trying to expand your (imo bad) example.

But my point is they arent directly comparable, because they are for the most part completely different.

But why won't you see it? Sony was crapping their pants because of the Nintendo motion sensing, so they rush to get something comparable out!

You don't have to believe it, but I do.

Thats like saying Nintendo was crapping their pants about the shape of the PS2 controller, so they made the Wii Shell look the same.

Yes, Nintendo kinda copied the PS2 controller layout with that controller. But it's only the positioning of the left stick. Not a whole new function to a controller.

Of course Sony will always keep the story up that they didn't copy Nintendo but just added an extra feature, but I know better.
