Default Madden Rev Controls Revealed

Quote:
For the first time in years, development on a major console version of EA's marquee franchise football series is being taken outside the doors of the company's Orlando, Florida-based EA Tiburon studio. The game is instead being handled north of the border, by a special Revolution-focused development group within EA's Burnaby, British Columbia studio.

Given that EA has dedicated a specific group to Revolution development, it stands to reason that the game will take advantage of the console's unique capabilities. While many details will have to wait until E3 kicks off, GameSpot was given an advanced scouting report which said that the gameplay will make extensive use of the Revolution controller's motion-sensing capabilities.

Players will hike the ball by mimicking a quarterback receiving the ball from the center, and then pass it to a receiver by making a throwing gesture with the free-hand controller. The faster the passing motion, the more of a bullet pass it becomes (in previous Madden editions, bullet passes were made by holding the passing button down longer).

Kicking the ball will be accomplished by sweeping the controller up as if it were a kicker's leg striking the ball. A fast, level swing will make for a hard, straight kick.

The Revolution controller will also come into play when running the ball, as jerking the controller left or right will make the ball-carrier juke to either side, while shoving it straight ahead will make him stiff-arm the opposition.
Gimmick or not?

Holy ****, I have an interview at EA burnaby! I might be working on this! The coordinator said I'd be working tons of different games instead of one.

Oh my. How fate plays with my mind like this.

Time will tell if it's a gimmick or not, which will be the same for all Wii games.

But gimmick or not, this is great news. It means EA isn't wasting their time with straight ports. What's the point of having a normal Madden with dumb-downed graphics when you bought a Revolution (sorry... a Wii) to play games that utilize it's unique Wiimote?

Very good news I think. EA is on board with the Wii, and everything it entails.

There's an interview that goes along with this news, and the EA representative explains that they wasted the first couple years of the DS by only trying to make straight ports that don't utilize the touchscreen. The guy said, now that they see all these games like Nintendogs and Brain Age that are doing so well for Nintendo, they realize they need to innovate from the start with the Wii.

Sounds nice, I'm sure the controls will work. But will it be special enough?

I suspect there will be 2 "control options". Normal or "Wii mode".

EA is just now realizing straight ports to Nintendo consoles after the DS won't work? Straight ports to DS or Wii won't sell. Its making it a reason to try it that sells if it works out well. EA's mind is "Profit with little effort" ie: straight ports. Unfortunately, for Ninty consoles/handhelds nowadays past DS, that won't work. You have to make people WANT to buy that version alongside other ones.

I see alot of drunken parties with people using the "Wiimote" (shoot me now for the pun will never end) and having interesting Madden parties
