you would never need to buy a $600 video card. its quite a common thought that you do. but its incorrect.
i've been able to play every newe game i wanted at its full graphics and i've never spent more then $300 on a vid card. usually i buy a $250 one every 3 or 4 years.
and this is the gen that consoles (ps3 at least so far) catch up in controls to PC FPS games. but however that it may be possible, i dont think this is the generation for mods on console fps games.
Thoes are 2 main factors the PC FPS's have always had over consoles, mods and keyboard/mouse.
as i already suspected/knew, ps3 is giving developers the option of adding keyboard/mouse so its a given that all PC developers like Epic are going to add it in thier console versions of the game, i dont think it will take long for the console only FPS developers to see the advantage and add in the support also. plus adding the support for it should be really quick and simple.
thing with mods is going to be how are people going to make them for console? For PC, the games ship with the tools and programs to make mods, and you have all the files on your HD ready to edit. this is different from console, they would have to make a way to have the tools ready to download on PC, then when you compile the mods it puts it in a format that can save on the PS3 HD and run.
we may see some mods for some games, most likly the console PC games like Unreal, but i dont think mods are gunna really take off on console games till Next gen. (after the PS3/x360)
But i am very pleased with PS3 for adding this support. i will DEFINENTLY put my PS3 on my computer desk and plug it into my widescreen LCD and play some Console FPS games with the keyboard/mouse
