Boy oh boy does the game look fun... and kind of big too...
But I do have to say, regardless of how processor intensive it is to create 'lively' worlds, I am pretty sure that the graphics could have been A WHOLE lot better, atleast up to maximo standards!

it looks like Shiggy is really focusing on the a lively envoirment because the graphics look n64 like.....I just hope the gameplay is 10 times better than Mario64. If it is it'll make alot of people happy.

The screen shots do look Nintendo 64 quality. As Shadow Link said hopefully the gameplay is great.

Well I think the screens reveal a bit more about the gameplay.
Like the first 3 screens seems to reveal cut scenes or a sort. The rest it seems like that is the fact the camera is at a unique angle for all 3 which sort of has Mario at an angle that seems to odd for gameplay.
I believe that the locales also give Mario a mission of sorts. If you look at the 3rd pic and then at the first, you will notice that the woman/creature Mario is talking to is present in the 3rd pic. Like if that creature is in here garden and Mario must clear it out (Similar to a mission in I believe Paper Mario)
the water meter is actually shown to be depleted if you notice in the pic where he is shooting upwards the meter is about 3/4 full. And the water is also shoot at an angle which probably means that the water pump may be controlled by the C-Stick similar to the vaccum in Luigi's Mansion.
The pirahna plant and 4 brothers may be some early boss battles or one of the level specific missions.
The 3rd meter makes a re-appearance in even more screens. It really doesn't help to solve the mystery but it's not related to the water apparently. Maybe it's mission coins or something.
All in all I think it should be a pretty fun game even if it ain't the presttiest game I've seen in my life.

I thought the game would look better than this, with great gameplay. Mario64 had great graphics for the time so you would expect it to look better....
But I'm sure the gameplay will make up for it

Sweet, looks good, I like the oil in the 5th picture it looks quite good and I would imagine that it looks neat in real time.

In fact it's effects like this that set the game aside from Mario 64, for those of you who are unsure about the graphics, just go back and look at Mario 64 and you will be able to appriciate the change. Also bare in mind that this is what Mario's world looks like. Quite why he is spraying in front of a weird female creature I dont know, dirty little man.

You may be near the mark there, I think they might be 'Sunshine Coins' you need to collect a certain amount to move on to the next part of the game world. They appear to be littered arond the place for you to find. (See attachment) As the picture I have attached suggests, if thats not a 'Sunshine Coin' I dont know what it is, sorry for the poor quality.

I'm buying this game when it releases no matter how good/bad the speculation is....
So far I see nothing bad enough to change my mind about a purchase...

Well for once I agree with Justin whole heartedly...
Now to throw some more speculation on the grill.. newest info from Nintendo including a nicely translated plot...
The storyline in Super Mario Sunshine is much different than what you might expect. This time, things are much more complicated than simply rescuing Princess Peach from Bowser. The adventure starts when Mario and Peach decide to take a well-deserved vacation to a beautiful island in a remote location. Since the island is perpetually sunny and inhabited by friendly locals, it seemed like the perfect choice at first.
In typical fashion, poor Mario never gets a chance to relax. When he arrives on the island, he notices ugly scribble marks covering the walls throughout the community. What's worse, the person responsible for the scribbling has disguised himself to look just like Mario!
Mario is falsely accused by the locals, so he decides to get to the bottom of things. Armed with a new water-pumping backpack, Mario sets out to clean up the scribbling and reveal the identity of the true villain. This is the latest news from Japan, and we can't wait to learn more.
The plot
Quote:
Mario bravely stands on a rooftop, surrounded by four unusual creatures. These characters look very similar to an enemy Mario first encountered in Super Mario World called Pokey. It's unclear whether these characters are friends or foes, but we're guessing that they're not willing to lend Mario a helpful hand.
These two screens show Mario talking to two local characters, one female and the other male. It's possible that Mario will have to talk to island inhabitants to gather clues about who is really scribbling on the walls.
Mario is either about to fire a blast of water at this Piranha Plant, or he's talking to it. Based on Mario's sordid history with Piranha Plants, we doubt that they're simply shooting the breeze.
It just wouldn't be a Mario game without exciting platform challenges. Here, Mario swings by his hands above a large body of water.
Mario uses his backpack to clean up some of the scribbler's murky ink. Since there is a Water Meter in the lower-right corner of the screen, Mario probably won't have an unlimited supply of the wet stuff.

Captions for the pics you could probably figure out which belongs to which.

Meh. Graphics are a bit weak. But you know what? Who cares, it is a Mario game. I have no doubt that it will be as good as all of the other Mario games.
