Transparent aluminum
Remember in Star Trek IV when they go back in time and Scotty gives the glassmaker the formula to make "transparent aluminum" so they can make a tank for the whales? Well here it is in real life:

Forget explosives and severe threats. They say this stuff is scratch resistant. This is any gamer's answer to handheld screens and iPods!

Re: Transparent aluminum
no, it says:
Quote:
It is virtually scratch-resistant.
|
what the heck does that mean, shouldn't it be "virtually scratch proof"
my projection tv IS scratch resistant, but not scratch proof
virtually scratch resistant, is that just normal, or on the edge of being scratch resistant, ... I don't get it.

Re: Transparent aluminum
Scratch Resistant -- It will repel scratches under normal circumstances but a heavy amount of force could sustain a scratch
Scratch Proof - It is totally impervious to any type of scratch.
Just read an article about the difference between Water Resistant and Water Proof material.... and just switched it out for SCRATCH.

Re: Transparent aluminum
yeah, but to brag about ALMOST being repel scratches under normal circumstances .... isn't good, cause it means you still can't repel them under normal circumstances.

whoo, go star trek....
meh, i'm still waiting on the lightsabre .....but still, transparent aluminum is insane, and one day i think gamemaster might actually be right, i can see that being used in heavily utilized accessories w/ glass.

Re: Transparent aluminum
yeah, nevermind, it was on this Bohr model stuff, I had to draw the atomic structure, all the electrons and neutrons and label everything.
example:
