The Next-Gen Giants Speak Out
Quote:
Excerpt from Robert Bach:
The other two companies' presentations [at E3] weren't surprising. Sony's [PS3's] capabilities are the same as ours. Nintendo is aiming for the niche market [with its Revolution]. The current-generation Xbox sold more than the PlayStation 2 in North America last Christmas. We will become the market leader with our next-generation console.
Sony's [PS3] will be able to use seven controllers simultaneously and connect with two high-definition TV sets. But it's hard to share a single screen with seven people, and it's also difficult to imagine a room with two high-definition TV sets. We don't know about the selling price yet, but to say the least, our cost of manufacturing [an Xbox 360] is less than Sony's
Excerpt from Ken Kutaragi
It isn't a bad thing to have a high price. When we released the original PlayStation at 39,800 yen ($368), Nintendo's Super Famicom was in the 10,000 yen range ($100 range). Still, everyone went for the PlayStation. This time, ours [the PS3] will be like a BMW that's equipped with a Ferrari engine. Nintendo's [Revolution] will be something like a new model of a family car. Some people might want it, but if it was me, I'd want to advance to the next level.
Excerpt of Satoru Iwata:
It will be more beneficial to the consumer if we took the money for [adopting the use of] a next-generation disc format and used it somewhere else where we can present more new fun. Nintendo is a company that likes to see smiles on the faces of people that love entertainment. We're not about selling new kinds of TVs or taking control of the living room.

Oh man... the tension is building and the heat of battle is getting to all of their heads. This will be an interesting duel of the fates.

Re: The Next-Gen Giants Speak Out
It sounds like Iwata is saying that Nintendo will once again make their own discs for the Revolution...
...Nintendo a niche player, my ass...

Re: The Next-Gen Giants Speak Out
Iwata is using standard DVD discs..... He said he's not adopting HD-DVD or Blu-Ray because they are going to use that money towards other stuff.
But in the heat of battle, things will be said about the competition. I never usually take what Robert Bach or Iwata say about the PS3 whole heartedly. I bet yo don't either when they talk about the Rev.

This is just a terrible quote. Hey Kenny Boy, when GameCube and Xbox were launched, they were a lot more expensive than PSX, but they outsold them too! You know why? Because not every ****ing family already owned one, that's why.

Yea...I had to re-read that several times to make sure it was really as stupid as it sounded. I mean it wouldve made a little more sense if he had said Nintendo 64.

Yeah, exactly. I mean, if you're going to brag about being expensive within a relatively similar time frame and still outselling, then he can brag. But when they are completely different generations of systems... come on, Kenny! There are lots of great things PlayStation has accomplished that you can boast about! You don't have to sink to that level.

Re: The Next-Gen Giants Speak Out
Nintendo again stays a little less rough then others Doesnt matter to me. I'll probably get at least the 360 and Revolution since their price will seem at least NORMAL. PS3 will probably be way too far out of my budget for now (now meaning next year)

Re: The Next-Gen Giants Speak Out
This will definately be an interesting generation, that's for sure. At this point, graphics, sound, and game resolution have all reached a maximum (until new standards are reached by PC's), and all consoles are online, so really now, it's all about the games- EXCLUSIVE ONES.
Either way, I'm getting an Xbox 360 this fall, a PS3 whenever it's delayed to, and a Revolution at the same time or later. No point in missing out on any of the fun this go-round, either.
BTW, wassup Gekko- how long have you been at 29 Stumps? I've been in Iraq for 4 months now, and I tell you...
