PlayStation 3 an Entertainment Console

Just raising the graphics capabilities and output resolution won't change anything from the current world of video game consoles," said Kutaragi. He went on to say that Microsoft's new game console is more of an "Xbox 1.5" than a new console, in the sense that it seems like an extension of the original Xbox.
Kutaragi gave one example of how the PS3's powerful calculation abilities and broadband network connection could be used for new and original entertainment endeavors.
"Users will be able to store their content in an online storage server called the 'Cell Storage.' And the Cell processor, when it's not being used, can refine the content's quality. We call it the 'aging' process. For example, users can 'age' their Standard Definition (SD) video and up-convert it to High Definition (HD) video. We have many plans [for the PS3], but this 'Cell Storage' service is something that we definitely intend to launch. By using the Cell's security feature, users will be able to rip DVDs that include copyright protection and lay it in the storage area to refine its video quality."

This new CELL STORAGE thing looks interesting in a sense. I'm definitely excited about the PS3 now, if it was a question in the past (hehe).

Re: PlayStation 3 an Entertainment Console
Interesting, I don't really understand how things can get upconverted from standard definition to high definition though.
By the way I love your new avatar. LOL

Which is exactly what they're doing. Glad he understands how worthless these consoles are.

Re: PlayStation 3 an Entertainment Console
Well actually that what cell is supposed to do. It's supposed to make everything behind the scenes much better. A single blade of grass having it's own unique algorithm, and trees in the environment ALL look different.
I read the whole article, and I think he explains that statement rather well.

You do realize, you are basically proving Gekko's point.
How does moving grass help a game? Heck how does moving grass help us now.. its just there...
And trees looking different.. well tickle my funny bone if that is not what I've always wanted....
