Cube's not looking so hot
Quote:
The first game from Nintendo's Tokyo studio, Donkey Kong Jungle Beat, debuted in March to abysmal sales figures. The bongo-based platformer sold through a paltry 39,000 units for the month, well below expectations.

Yeah, Cube's kinda getting the shaft. On a brighter note, Yoshi's touch and go for the DS is one of the best games I've ever played. I was really sceptical, but it's great.

Re: Cube's not looking so hot
Nothing I can do to defend these unhappy figures. Occasional star titles aren't enough. Nintendo needs to produce a constant line of star games. If that means a new Zelda title every other month and a new Super Smash Bros. every 6 months, so be it. I'm sick and tired of waiting around. If an award winning DS title isn't released by June, I'm packing it all up and selling it. If Mr. Miyamoto can't generate ideas faster, a replacement will need to be found.

Re: Cube's not looking so hot
I still need to buy Jungle Beat. And a lot of other games.
Honestly, who has enough time and money to buy through all the gamecube titles that come out every month, and beat them all? I sure don't have enough of either. RE4 was a stretch for me, but well worth it.
Gamecube has been one of my favourite consoles along with Turbo Grafx, SNES, and Dreamcast. It's just tickled me in that special way. And Zelda is going to be a great way to go out.

Re: Cube's not looking so hot
Maybe this will be a wake-up call to Nintendo that these innovative games just don't sell.

Re: Cube's not looking so hot
well, donkey konga sold 300,000 units, and the second one should do equally as good. this game just didn't do it for some reason. too high of price point if you ask me.

Re: Cube's not looking so hot
Since when have games like this ever sold? Add to that the horrible marketing job Nintendo does.
I compliment Nintendo for having the balls to release a game like this in the US. But if they expected it to sell, they're crazy.

Re: Cube's not looking so hot
Innovative games like this are all that excite me anymore.
The two games I was most excited for last month were DK: Jungle Beat and Yoshi's Touch and Go. Unfortunately, being a college student I only have so much money, and I couldn't have both.
I think it's the concept that is hard for people to grasp. Playing a rhythm game with bongos is one thing, but a platformer... they probably think that's just crazy.
I also agree with Dyne. I don't know who these people are that need 5 AAA titles a month, but come on... there's life outside of a videogame console. Cube is one of my favorite console ever because even though its library isn't huge, it has so many great games, and I still haven't beat half of the ones I own.

Lol, Typhoid? (edit: mybad, I thought you said Typhoid instead of Dyne... )
I'd prefer it if they made a huge platform game, like DKC.

People who'd like to have some choices rather than having to buy the single AAA title that comes out every 3 months..
Although I do agree gamecube is probably enough for gamers without a lot of time to spend playing...

I just bought it today. Can't wait to get home and play it once i'm back in Kitimat.
You want to set up an official High Score Thread for it?

Re: Cube's not looking so hot
Half of Nintendo's problem is that they like to use the same old games, but have you play it in a new. Maybe the reason DK: Jungle Beat didn't sell is because it is just an old game with a different controller. Nintendo reallly needs to come out with some new franchises or new star characters.

Re: Cube's not looking so hot
Why must we be limited to one SSB title per console? Why can't Gamecube have 2 or 3 Super Smash hits? That would solve a lot problems.

Re: Cube's not looking so hot
I don't understand how DK: JB is an old game with a new controller. Just because it stars an old character doesn't make it any less of a game than anything else. As I've stated before, I'm all for the reusage of characters... especially since the bongos were designed for a DK game already, and DK suits them very well.

Re: Cube's not looking so hot
Its turning out like the N64 again, towards the end it seems to 'fizzle' a little while everyone gears up for the next offering. But hey, new Zelda. That'll be probably the last really big game on the 'Cube
